A Race Fit for a Prince!

From out of the dusty deserts, Pyr had a surprise visit today by a homin of note. Much to the dismay of a certain Tryker based gambling cartel, the Lanist is back!

It seems that Lanist had come out from hiding in order to once again sponsor a sporting event. This reporter heard that Lanist may have been under some pressure from the Brotherhood of the Fortunate Gubani to cease and desist from sponsoring gambling activities. But only The Brotherhood and Lanist himself would know and as far as I can see neither are willing to comment.

But what we do know is that Lanist came forth bearing a prize “fit for a Prince”, so we can tell that he definitely hasn't gotten over his chauvinism. I'm willing to bet he gets a good scolding from the Society of Tryker Women when he returns to Fairhaven! I wouldn't want to be in his shoes!

The event was short and sweet; a Mektoub race from Cerakos gate to the Academy, passing by the Forge and back to the gate. It seems Lanist was in a bit of a hurry to get the race over and fade from the scenery. That would explain the shortness of the race in this reporters mind!

But anyhoo!  Several homins lined up at the gate for the impromptu race, I cannot remember them all because the smell of sweaty mektoubs fouled the air and this reporter had just finished her lunch. I do remember that there were about 5 or 6 of those foul beasts and their riders, as I was extremely happy when Lanist gave the signal to GO! It was like a wave of smelly dust, but the desert breeze soon cleared the aroma of mektoub from this reporter’s sensitive nose.

As the racers were off, it was overheard that Lanist mentioned that the brotherhood has been giving him troubles with accepting bets on the side, so I'm certain that any betting action on the race had nothing to do with Lanist. I for one certainly wouldn't want those shady characters after me!

In the end Nitrouss emerged victorious winning by a good 4 lengths. Lanist rewarded him with 10 Kitin Larvae! That is quite a haul for a short race and quite typical of Lanist's generosity and flashy style.

One can only wonder where he gets his wondrous prizes and how long he will be able to continue his support of sporting events and stay clear of the long arm of the Gubani cartel... only time will tell and this reporter for one will be watching closely for further developments on the gubani connection.
