Rumours in the Desert

It started with rumours on the hot sandy winds of the deserts, and a plea from Marshall Phanasa:

“Greetings Homins, I am hoping that you can spread some light on the strange rumours that have come to the ears of the Marshals. These concern Homins disappearing without trace, attacks on wayfarers and some wild stories of the emergence a cult that worships the Great Dragon.

I have been tasked with investigating these untoward occurrences, and I should be grateful if you could post here any information you may have unearthed over the last few days, so that we may ascertain exactly what is happening and put an end to the speculation.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation,

Marshall Phanasa

And soon became a race against time to discover the Lost Book of the Dragon – a race the Homins unfortunately lost:

“Marshal Phanasa wishes to thank the homin for their heroic attempt to uncover lore about the Dragon Cult from the Scorched Corridor hermits. An attempt that, alas, appears to have failed.

A book of lore was retrieved from a mute hermit, living deep in the caves of the Scorched Corridor but was stolen from its retriever, Rocci, by a band of bandits before it could be returned safely to Pyr.

Investigations will continue and these bandits will, hopefully, be found soon. We may call upon you again soon for further assistance.

Prominent citizen of Fyros, Xalis, sends his condolences to the homin involved and thanks them for their assistance. He also wishes Rocci speedy recovery from the injuries received in the bandit attack”

There was something very, very wrong with the water supplies………..

Report from Tappy O’Rly, Master Plumber of Tryker, regarding water issues in Fyros lands:

With the aid of the following homin of good character, Windra, Haplo, Dalaenna, Rhyanna, Jocker, Manku, but most especially Ryz – without whose patience I would have surely failed to complete my task, I was able to check every major water source and feature in Fyros.

The famous Pyr Baths were my first port of call and when examined I noticed that the water pressure was not what it should have been. I could find no fault with the pipes or mechanisms which lead me to suspect a problem more deeply rooted in the supply. The water was also hotter than usual, due to the lack of pressure, and there was a slight smell to it, which I couldn’t quite place and dismissed as simply the Fyros scent.

I was next escorted to Oflovak’s oasis where I examined both lakes. There should have been leach-through from the main water supplies as well as the springs that feed the oases but here again, there was a lack and both lakes were somewhat lower than usual and their water less fresh.

Dyron Lake was our next port of call. Apart from the disgusting habit of letting their mektoubs bathe and defecate in their water supply I noticed that the water was of low quality, even considering that problem. The problem being that the water was not being cycled and replenished fast enough. More signs of a blockage. I recommend that the Dyron inhabitants not drink the local water until flow is restored.

Thesos lake proved to be equally tainted and I also noted the existence of some frothing scum, formed from breaking down animal fats. This would suggest that the contamination in the water supply comes from dead animals or similar. I traced the water back to Thesos spring and found something disturbing. Beyond reasonable doubt the source of the fatty, frothy scum is homin fat. Homin bodies are blocked up somewhere in the water supply, breaking down and creating this froth.

Knowing that an underground tributary comes off the main flow to Troubled Water I got my companions to next escort me there where me terrible suspicion was confirmed by the presence of bones, from homin of all peoples.

Someone is killing homin somewhere deep in the water supply, probably in the roots, and they are also blocking the flow, creating a huge pressure of backed up water though I cannot guess for what purpose.

I pass this information on to the Marshals, who will know best what to do with it.

In service.

Tappy O’Rly, Master Plumber.

The Homins however rallied to help, and finally defeated the evil Dragon Cult, freeing their prisoners.

From Marshall Phanasa:

The face of The Dragon Cult has been destroyed.

Those who were preying upon homin have been put the sword and axe or destroyed by magic. They should plague us no more.

The dam they had built, a dam of bone and blood as well as a dam of wood and bark, was skillfully dismantled by Tappy O'Rly allowing the pressure to ease off more slowly. The water in Fyros should be restored within the day and the remains have been recovered for decent burial, or resurrection where possible.

Tappy and the Bathgirl from Pyr were both rescued and made safe, their lives now standing as a testament to homin bravery.

Still, we cannot afford to let our guard down. Such a terrible act could not have been performed or orchestrated by only three homin. There may be other members of this cult amongst us, anywhere. Stay alert homin, your minds and your strength at arms prevented this plot, and your minds and strength at arms shall protect us again.

Today though, celebrate your victory!
