New Ways

The mood was grim in Zorai and Fyros, the tidings received earlier in the week had made everyone on edge. The vague rumors from unnamed scouts as to the increased Kitin activity in the Great Outback and the Dyron Burning Desert areas as well as the unsettling news of Kami and Karavan involvement helped fire the spread of rumors throughout Atys.

Finally, some concrete news arrived; Kitin scouts had been spotted just outside of Dyron and Jen Lai. Meena rallied the Homin forces that were in Jen Lai, while Harimata the Scout brought word to the capital city Zora, where the allied races were gathering and equipping their strike force. There was no time to loose!

Meena’s small but fierce group of defenders were being hard pressed by the Kitin but just as they had began to fall back toward the center of Jen Lai, the large force from Zora arrived. Taking the Kitin by surprise the two groups of Homin warriors crushed the Kitin horde between them. Guards were quickly dispatched to secure the entrances to Jen Lai, while scouts were sent to backtrack the Kitin’s route to their war camp.

In Fyros the troops rallied at Pyr for a briefing from the Lady Deamla, before marching onto Dyron in tight formation. Despite devastating battles against marauding kinreys and even the wicked bandit group that attempted to take advantage of the Kitin invasion they advanced on the main Kitin camp in good order.

Word quickly reached the defenders of Jen Lai that a second wave of Kitin was approaching. This time though the combined forces were ready for the Kitin and the second wave was dispatched almost as soon as they reached the town gates. Harimata returned under cover of the attack and gave her Scouting report to Meena, the camp of the Kitin and the stronghold of the Boss had been discovered just to the West of the Great Outback Outpost.

Meanwhile the Fyros were engaged in a fierce struggle with the great Kitin leader. Tens of Fyros fell, to be replaced by their friends and comrades determined to beat back this new Kitin menace. Slowly the leader was beaten down, falling at last into a heap of crushed shell.

Then it became clear just what the Kitins had been guarding! Using the magic sap artifact recovered in the Nexus the Karavan, sanctioned by the Kami, had created a magic portal between Fyros and Zorai. The Kitins were however, determined to prevent the Homins gaining access to this and had blocked it with boulders and bodies.

The Zorai attack force reached the edge of the Witherings and heard the joyous news that the Fyros armies had won through the bandits and had dispatched the Kitin leader in the Burning Desert, but that they were confounded by a great wall of rubble that the Kitin had thrown up against a cavern of some sort, that the Kitin had defended to their last.

Now, with weapons drawn and faces grim, the Zorai force started on the last desperate sprint across the desert for their date with destiny. Up the desert ramp they ran, sneaking around a group of Kitin sentries, they ran till in the distance the black towering form of the Kitin Boss could be seen, shimmering through the heat haze rising off of the desert floor. With a bloodcurdling shout the warriors surged forward at an even faster speed and were soon at blows with the Kitin masses. The noise of the battle was deafening and the blasts of magic blinding, in this fog of war it finally became apparent that the evil Kitin and their Boss had all been slain.

As the wounded were being cared for and healed, shouts were heard in the distance and with a great rumble and clashing of stone upon stone; the warriors witnessed a wondrous sight. The mound of rubble that had blocked the cavern mouth in the cliff face had moved and from around it the forces of Fyros ran to greet their brothers and sisters in arms.

And beheld in the cavern, a new Portal between the lands of Fyros and Zorai! There was much exultation and backslapping among the warriors now as they all realized what the day’s battle had won for them!!

Either planned or on the spur of the moment the Fyros warrior Dunga declared his love for Lady Sativa and petitioned the Council members who had joined in the great rejoicing for an immediate marriage ceremony so it was that many joyous Homins repaired to the Palace in Pyr where the marriage was preformed amongst much merriment and happiness.
