Does NeL/Ryzom support Normal Maps?

I was curious if NeL/Ryzom can support normal maps.
I know the game is a bit dated so the Ryzom assets may not have normal maps but I was thinking of using Ryzom for a new project. Also if Ryzom does not support normal maps is anyone trying to add normal map support or will it be added later?
