Open Ryzom doesn't support LoD models for static objects.

When I have researched LoD models for static objects, I have found that Open Ryzom doesn't using (or support) LoD models of trees. I allocated this moment at the second picture. It shows high poly wireframe model. Isn't it?

ShamanRU,

I know we already talked about this on IRC but just in case anyone follows the thread...

You specified four trees, from left to right:

  • fo_s2_abragrelot (one LOD, billboard, at distance 200)
  • fo_s2_abragrelot (one LOD, billboard, at distance 200)
  • fo_s1_giant_tree (one LOD, billboard, at distance 150)
  • fo_s2_birch (one LOD, billboard, at distance 150)

Judging from your screenshot you are not within the LOD distances for your tree models to full "ungrow" to the billboard. I think that's why you see higher polygon counts on these trees. But one thing that is interesting to mention is in the exact middle of your screen is a tall fo_s1_giant_tree in the distance. If you look where that tree is located in your wireframe screenshot that particle tree appears to be fully billboarded. So I think there are LOD'd static objects (trees in this case) that are verified in Open Shard.

Feel free to correct me, because if I am wrong I would like to rectify it and add an example to Open Shard.

Thank you!
