question on mac update

Added by giorg about 6 years ago

Hi all,

a little question: I'm on a mac, I did download the 1.13 upgrade and run the update script. Now, the new app is about 39 MB, and my old app about 6 GB. My try was to put my old app in the trash and run the new one. Everything was fine, how can this be? Can I really free 6 GB and everything works just fine?

Thanks a lot

Hi Giorg !

If you installed Ryzom from AppStore, the script will copy all files from it to the new Ryzom.app folder so all should work and you could be able to uninstall the AppStore version :)

If you check again the size of Ryzom.app, it should take around 6 GB.

Hey kervala,

thank you for your answer, I'll try to be more precise. A year ago I downloaded the 1.12 version from the app store, and that was 6 GB. Yesterday I downloaded 1.13 version from dev.ryzom.com and ran the update script. Now, the old ryzom.app (which is 6 GB) I did put it in the trash, but the new is only 39 MB, but still everything is working. So, can I completely delete the old one? And if so, how can this be?

Thanks again

In fact, if the new Ryzom.app takes 39 MB, I suspect, it didn't copy necessary data.

Since both the old and new Ryzom application have the same identifier, Mac OS X detects when it's moved and should use the AppStore version :(

Please could you check why the ryzom_updater script didn't copy all files before deleting the AppStore version ?

actually it didnt do delete the app store version... and what the exact procedure for upgrade was not THAT clear to me...

To make update working, you need to have "Ryzom.app" in /Applications if you moved it, it won't work.

If you double click on ryzom_updater, you should see a lot of messages saying some files are copying in the Terminal window. If there is any error, you should see them too.

If Ryzom can't be found in /Applications, it will try to launch "wget" and "7z" which are not installed by default under Mac OS X.

The exact procedure is :

  • be sure you installed Ryzom from AppStore and it's still present in /Applications
  • download the ZIP file
  • uncompress it somewhere in your personnal folder
  • double click on ryzom_updater
  • see if there is no error in this window
  • if all is ok, double click on Ryzom (the one uncompressed not the one from AppStore)
