Landscape

Hey everyone!

I am trying to create a terrain using the description http://www.opennel.org/confluence/display/NEL/CreatingALandscape
And I face a lot of issues:

1. At point 11 when using Displace modifier I get breaks on the edges (see screenshot displace.jpg)

2. I kept working by the points and got the next problem at point 22. I did everything as it was said there: first I run 0_setup.bat, after that I exported zones to build_game_data/processes/zone/zone_exported. But after I run 3_build.bat or 2_export.bat absolutely nothing happened (of course, it’s possible that it should be this way but I am not sure of it).
4. Then point 23, how can I get files shape and instance_groups and do I need them if I try to export at least a clean Patch.

Basically, I don’t fully understand how to work in NeL. I need a simple explanation of how to work with it. For example, I need to create the whole landscape in 3D Max and export it whole for editor or I need to create parts of landscape and along with the tile textures open them in the editor and then put it together and paint.

Also, the system of work with editor is not very clear. I can load terrain with *.land extension and after export from 3D Max we get files with *.zone extension.

I was not able to find more detailed description of work on creation of landscape and ask competent people to explain the technical process in more details, if possible.

The holes in the landscape are fixed by the welding tool, it's not an issue.
Max exports .zone files, which can be used by world edit.
World edit makes a .land files, which in return can build a organized set of .zone files, which are then welded and lighted by the build pipeline.
An updated build pipeline will be available this week. :)

Thnx but how can I add .zone files and textures to world edit to create landscape?

There's a ligoscape plugin or script that comes with the 3ds Max tools.
You'll have to setup your tiles correctly, and then place the resulting zone and some other metadata in the continents/newbieland folder.

How can I properly setup zones to be able to open them in the editor?

I looked at the files which should be used 0_setup.bat./2_export и ./3_build.bat) and saw that they use Unix commands.
Please, advise what I should install or adjust to make the bat files work correctly? And can the Unix-like environment Cygwin be used?

Hi, all!

Attempting to create a landscape with this recipe, but in testing (with snowballs2) have NOTHING instead of landscape(gnu just levitating in space..)) ). In .BAT files it can`t create a .CMB file(i guess, this file is needed by all means, because in final files it logs comething like "Merging with CMB","Can`t find .CMB"). Another files I already have(.IG .SHAPE .ZONE .BANK .FARBANK)

How can i get this .CMB file? In 3dmax, when I trying to export collisions, it says: "Error reporting collision". Is it collisions or something else?

And if I doing all this steps with no .CMB it generates .RBANK(6 bytes, is it normal?) and .gr(1547 bytes) - seems to me, it just written the headers in this files and no other needfull stuff.

Please, help! Need your advice!!
