"Dropping" Items

First, I'd like to introduce myself to the community. I've been watching the development for about a week and decided (finally) to jump in and start working on the engine.

My first plan is to implement a system for PvP that allows full looting. After looking through the code a bit, I understand how to "eat" items from the inventory. I also remember seeing a post on these forums that talks about "dropping" and item by creating an entity that represents that item.

Due to my currently low knowledge of the engine, I was wondering if somebody could point me in the right direction of creating entities to represent items (that can then be "picked up"). I don't expect you to do the work for me.
