Some Questions and answers on life on Atys and roleplaying

QUESTION 1)
How long is one year in real time? And one season in real time?

ANSWER
The equivalences ryzom time/real time are the following ones:
1 year of Jena (JY for Jena Year) = 2 real-time months
1 atysian cycle = 2,57 weeks = 18 real-time days
1 atysian season = 108 hours = 4,5 real-time days
1 atysian month = 36 hours = 1,5 real-time days
1 atysian week (6 days) = 432 minutes = 7 hours and 12 minutes
1 atysian day = 72 minutes = 1 hour and12 minutes

How long is a year of Jena, and what is an atysian cycle?
Only the year of Jena corresponds in the background to the earthly year. The periods of time as the seasons, months, weeks and days are four times shorter on Atys than on Earth. An Atysian season is four times shorter than a earthly season. The same thing for a day. That's why the cycle was created: this period of time corresponds to the common vision of the year (4 seasons, 12 months...), as a revolution of the planet around the sun.

Summary:
One year of Jena is constituted by 4 cycles, 16 seasons ( 4 spring-summer-autumn-winter successions), 48 months, 240 weeks and 1440 days.
An Atysien cycle is constituted by 4 seasons, 12 months, 60 weeks and 360 days.
Note that the year begins with spring.
Atysian days contain 24 hours. The number of minutes and seconds is identical to the earth system, but obviously, everything is four times shorter on Atys.

If we give the equivalences real time/Ryzom time, it is necessary to clarify the information above, or one year of Jena will be likened to a period of 12 Atysian months, while it lasts 48 Atysian months (but 12 ground months).

QUESTION 2)
About having children in a roleplay sense - is it possible to say that we have parents from different races in roleplaying?

ANSWER
To have children is possible between homins of two different races, but there will be no interbreeding of the racial physical characteristics, a race will take the step on the other one. So, Matis and Fyros can have children, and they will be of appearance Matis or Fyros.

Homins have a lifespan comparable to the human one.

QUESTION 3)
At release, we know that we were in year 2525. Are we getting older? Are we still in 2525? How old are our leaders to take an example? Did anything changed?

ANSWER
Yes, the time passes by on Atys, and homins ages. According to Ryzom time, the game started in 2525 (JY), what corresponds in mid-September on 2004 in the real time. By making a fast calculation, we are in 2530 ( JY).

Age of the sovereigns:
Yrkanis 48 years
Dexton 50 years
Mabreka 45 years
Still Wyler 52 years

Thank you for sharing. I never counted hours or days. I just thought one season is about a week.

This is not only interessting for RP purposes, but also good to know for harvesters.

Do we have names for weekdays and months ? And is it possible to get the exakt ingame date for a specific RL date ? For example:

Saturday 13 august 2005 12:00 BST is like 7:00 sataday atygust 2530

When the ig calender comes in, you'll find out ;)

not possible, unless they change how the atys time works.
server side stall/lag/crash/reboot throws all calculations off (1 atys hour should be 3 min but in reality it's not, it's few milliseconds longer ;-)

If i get a reference and if get it sorted out, i will try to write a little web application that shows a calendar and that shows when next season will start.

It would be helpful to know the ig date for a certain date and time in RL and it would be very helpful to know the exact RL date/time when a seasons starts next time. And i mean exact ;)

We would also be able to celebrate next new year at Thesos bar :D You know, with lots of tea and fireworks ;)

Well, if the ingame time stops while reboots and maintenance this project will not succeed.

gl with that, it would be really helpful for pr diggers ;)
just dont forgot to make it easy to "sync" with atys every once in a while or after server crash/reboot.

We tried to do this a couple of times. It required to be reset fairly often, even after the server reached a much more stable state. They didn't pick a real-time reference point for time calculations and server reboots or stalls causes our clock calculations to be off. Maybe they did this on purpose to reduce camping on seasonal spots.

If you do make an app that automatically adjusts itself, I'd be interested in it! :)

In the fankit is a php that shows how to check if a server is up or down. This may be a way. An ugly one, but a way :D Feel free to use it if you allready started to build a calendar ;)

How can we submit more questions?

Re: Some Questions and answers on life on Atys and roleplaying

I'm thinking of adding an Atys calendar to our site with a simple way for us to sync up the time each day with the game. For normal server stalls and such that cause the time to be off by only an atysian hour or two, we would just need to check if it was synced each night when we logged in by waiting for it to change from one hour to the next and making sure the site matched.

For longer downtime (patches, crashes, etc.) where the server is down for several Atysian days, it would require waiting for a seasonal change to ensure that the day of the year on the website calendar matched the in-game calendar. But even that shouldn't be too bad.

I'd just have it so certain "trusted" people could sync the web clock. As long as we have a handful of people that are checking it every so often, we should be able to make something that reasonably predicts when seasons will change, which tends to be what most are looking for.
