I would be hugely disappointed if they added jumping. I've never ever seen an rpg that had a jump that looked good. I remember when I first played oblivion, the graphics were just so immersive, the grass waved, the wildlife was all around me, then I pressed jump and couldn't help but think "boing boing! boing!"

This is more of a mechanical issue than any other. What bugs me is that most of the aruas in the game share the same reuse timer. It doesn't make sense that the healing aruas share the same timer as say, a fighting enhancement aura such as War Cry. Is it that hard to code in seperate timers for these? It is more realistic for these timers to be seperate in my opinion. Is this an issue the Devs could look at serisously and consider changing? If there is a more appropriate area to post this please advise.

I concur and I would add that I think this is one of the major contributions to meleers still being singnificantly behind magi.

While I admit this being offtopic, (deserves another thread), as someone used to say "I can't leave things like that go uncontested" or "all it takes for evil to win is good men to do nothing" ;), I don't agree at all that melees are significantly behind magic (although you may have reasons to think so). With the HP upgrades in armors and the spell resistance jewels that's, imho, simply not true.

In what context you consider "being behind"? of course, not PvP duels, I had no chance to win against Kye/Yaffle or Fasinus in a one on one duel... Maybe if we get the equivalent of jewel resistances or a +4 dodge per piece light armors, then maybe...

The only aspect I see is an elementalist being able to switch "roles" and heal with no penalty... I guess that's part of the "magi" tho. Finally, considering afflictions, with the lost cast time, high rate of resistance and inability to act but within a short time window when the link breaks, I do not consider them a significant advantage unless you have mastered them.

Respectfully,

I was against having separate cooldowns initially, but now that I got invulnerability and warcry, I must say I'm starting to change my mind.

War cry just isn't really an "incredibly powerful, but short lasting skill" like invulnerability. I took it because I figured "hey, I can just spam it. +30% damage occasionally is still better than nothing". But the fact that it disables my vastly superior emergency skill, means I have never used warcry more than once. And that was when I got it from the trainer just to see what it looked like.

In anything other than a close-order duel the warrior is, despite these very helpful compensatory measures - still borked. There is a gaping gulf between the ability of the mage to dole out damage and that of the warrior.

In single combat IF the warrior reaches you you're only maybe dead, depending on interrupts.

In long range combat the warrior is dead unless they get very jammy on resists.

In large scale PvP the warriors are largely irrelevent unless they get very lucky and get in amongst the healers. Usually you spend most of your time flat on your face.

In PvE either the nuker kills the beast before you get to it or your contribution to damage is rendered largely irrelevent by the elementalist. You are really just the meat shield.

If the special abilities were on seperate timers then things like berserk, rapid healing, warcry etc would see a lot more use and would help compensate for the remaining imbalance. I'd also like to see crits happen a little more often on basic melee attacks for the same reason.

Re: Forums: What Bugs You The Most? (by Xavier Antoviaque)

Well perhaps not surprisingly I'd agree with Ani that the extra default boosts on armor on top of the rest AND jewels boost AND resiststances AND absorb even if the later isn't anything special is still plenty. Melee pretty much always beats Magic these days (1on1) even if the melee weapon is a "slow" one (say 2hders) its still fast enough to keep smacking the mage down and stop them from casting... They can't even dodge while casting so all you have to do is get close to them and shows over. If casters didn't have the range they'd be useless.

Again, prolly worthy of a seperate thread. :)

If fighters could do the same damage as mages, attack at mages range, use mage credits, heal as mages, they would be... mages.

In PvE a fighter damage is not negligeable (over 1k at highest levels), mages drain fast so they are down as well unless they happen to be amongst the healers.

In op fights they have their role. Again, you see more mages due to they ability to heal with no penalty.

There is no such imbalance, just different roles.

Sorry, you did not show those numbers. I don't know what numbers you are referring to. HP/Sap&stam pool drains? damage taken? 1vs1 duels? damage dealt? or simply the number of players playing each role at OP battles? (taking into accoun the heal aspect, directly stating that there is an overall imbalance between fighters and mages because elementalists can heal with no penalty thus favouring group fight is a bit pushy). If you refer to 1v1 duels, then glad that, in that point, we agree. The numbers clearly state theat mages are underpowered with regard to melee fighters. No other argument is needed, indeed. Or is this just yet another way to dismiss comments and state "my opinion is the obvious"?, but please, do not let me refrain you from having the last word, feel free to post

Number of magicians Vs number of melees.
That was obvious too.

Ok, so given the number of relative fighters and mages on outpost battles mages need to be nerfed or fighters boosted despite clearly mages being disfavoured on 1on1 fights. I would have thought that was a bit more complex than that, or applying that obvious reasoning, there ae several branches that need to be boosted given their relative presence as well? Ok, whatever. Anyway, I'm not playing your game anymore. Despite you having valid points, the way you post clearly turns me off from having a good discussion. Moving on.. I've been playing with my circular attack the past few days, and the criteria for what it hits seems a bit.. odd.

There might be a reasoning behind the "can only hit stuff that's attacking you", but honestly I don't see it. If my group gets an add, I don't see what would be wrong with me doing circattack without needing to have both (or all) the aggro.
It also seems to not work on static mobs like plants. Even if the plants are virtually right on top of eachother and they're both attacking me, my circular attack will only hit my target.
And lastly, it seems to me like it has no range criteria. If I run up and smack a clopper, then run over to a kipee and use circattack on it, I will hit both mobs regardless of how far away the clopper is.

It all just seems very fuzzy. I would much prefer if it had the traditional "hit everything within X range". Correct me if this would unbalance anything, though.

Re: Forums: What Bugs You The Most? (by Xavier Antoviaque)

What bugs me the most is that when I boot up the game (which I am totally hooked on by the way) about 1 out of every 2 boots, it is validating files and gets to 235/236, checks files inside of excelll.bn or something and finds a bad checksum, does some patch and gives me a button to press to restart the game. Then when it restarts, it lets me go through with the acceptance of the EULA and log in.

But it does this almost every time I start up Ryzom. Either there is a bad file, or the patcher is failing to patch, or the game is corrupting its own files during play.

It is low level annoying to have to start up the game twice before I can play. If there is a bad file, the patcher should replace it. If it has to replace it over and over and over, there's a problem.

Other than that bug and the lack of a bank, I'm loving Ryzom.

You said you'd give me the last word, remember? :)
One on one still isn't even unless the melee is already at point blank range.
And yes, ranged needs a tweak as well (which we're told is ongoing).
People follow the path of least resistance. That so many choose magic (specifically elemental) over all else provides a strong indicator that this is a relatively overpowered skill.

I agree, though it would make extra aggro trickier to avoid :)

But yeah, an area attacking using the weapon reach to determine the radius seems like the best solution, doesn't it? Working exactly like a bomb spell.

if you have a mob targetted you can right click on the mini map and select "Target:(mob name)". This feature is the bomb for a caster that wants to get to max range. The only problem is you have to click it everytime to get the read out. That is unless you click another mob before the other fades. I was wondering would it be possible to get a macro opened up for this? Its all about effencienty.

Last time I checked, Circle attack doesn't work in PvP at all :p ... Circle attack could use a bit of help, But the reason it doesn't work on brains is because they are not in melee combat with you ;) ... They are using magic.

Hmmm....im pretty new so i dont have as much indepth to say as some of the older players i guess. I kinda wish that magic users could wear some sort of "hat" or light helmet without getting a disadvantage. I only started this week and just got my paying acount active so im not sure if there are any later on that i havent seen yet...but i deffinetly hope to be gettin SOME sort of headwear in the future for my char. lol

Also...i havent explored enough to know how many maps are available using Ryzom Ring once you have explored everything. But i think it would be nice to be able to edit maps or import some sort of map from an external program.

Skins would also be cool to import in player run scenarios. I know how much of an "iffy" area this is since such scandals as the "hot coffee" gta incident and people would sure try to make many nudie char. mods or whatever...but i think that it would work with the Ryzom community. Most are mature members and report things that arent supposed to be there....so if anyone was to do this i would think that it wouldnt be online for too long.

I know this has been asked for so so so many times before, but is there any chance we can have a list of some sort put next to Guild members names/friends list names as to see when they were last logged into the game, its rather annoying not knowing when someone was last online, or if they have not been on for some time. also the friends list is still bugged, saying people are on-line when they are not. tell windows freezing your computer is totally annying aswell..

also, how about some new CC weapons.. daggers dont do nothing and are plain boring, how about some gloves of some sort ( other then amps ) with like spikes and stuff??? add some more dmg to then aswell.. kinda pointless hitting 250 in daggers and still taking 30 mins to kill an arana or so..

- Taunting of NPCs in OP battles, why can't we do it?

- When are we going to get the 'goo' mobs on the mainland? 2.5 years is a long time to have missions/quests that can't be done because the mobs don't exist.

- Not being able to see from the jewel/armour piece icon what boost it has on it.

Would love this, I have 2 jewel sets, both the same ql and race. I keep them in different packers but sometimes in a rush I find I have put on my focus jewels and running off to kill stuff :p

Maybe the same for armour sets if possible :O

plain "add few lines to tooltip which shows boosts by color and how much is it" should be good too. (and that for all equipment ofcourse)

Hey guys, just been chatting to a Guide in game and they suggested I post this here.
I asked if there was a way to view the armour before you buy it, so you can check the style, and if it fits into your characters image.
So would the suggestion of having a view before you buy option be of use to anyone else? I know some people might not like this because of a certain W game's option. Personally I don't own that game but like the idea of being able to view the armour before I buy it.

Re: Forums: What Bugs You The Most? (by Xavier Antoviaque)

I think you'll understand that there are many more requests posted here than what we can handle in the short-to-mid term. As said earlier, we pick up suggestions from your list when we find some time to work on them. For example, the missing titles for the autolauncher, fame titles or the daggers wrong speed cap.

We try to have several points ready before preparing a patch. Then we test. But, even if the development of some features is done quickly, these may not come live before several weeks or months depending on what our testers find while testing the patch and the time needed to fix the bugs - this is the debug stage. (As a reminder, you can find an explanation of the patch release process here.)

Last point, most of the interface improvements requested require a lot more work and even though it's at the top of the list, it will require part of our team to focus on it and no more on the other features in pipe for a while.

I'll tell you what bugs me the most tonight.

Being shushed in /universe.

The people doing all the shushing and tut-tutting about it not being for chat but being a Q&A channel INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH seem to never answer questions, but they always unlurk long enough to complain about people chatting.

The chatters on the other hand, always stop and answer any questions asked as soon as they are asked.

Makes you go hmmm....

Give us a universal chat channel! Or stop telling us to stop socializing.

Oh and on another related topic, I don't know about the male Zoraļ face mask tattoos, but the female options are really pretty Mardi Gras party mask and not terribly natural/tribal. At least in Zora there are a few more designs to choose from but still, only about 8 that are naturalistic and the rest of the 60 or so are rather garish...pink swirls and red lips with one tear coming down from one eye and stuff. As soon as I could afford it I availed myself of some of the more South Pacific designs as can be seen to the left.

Leaf and wood and hoof and horn. Get a little of the woodland magic in there and less Bourbon Street. (Nothing against Bourbon Street but Zoraļ are a tribe, not a Crewe.)

The Hair ornament selection, is much better.

I kinda think the stuff we have (Like OPs and The Ring) Should be upgraded and made better before anything else 'new' is added ;) *mumbles about spires* :p

I would love to see OPs have something new added to them (No limitations added!!!) Like another building at least :p (and IDK if this has been said before , Cus I am not gonna read back 40+ Pages sorry :p ) There is so much that could be done with OPs that would make them so much 'more' fun... I know its not easy to do, But OPs could really be something great :)

P.S. As for bugs the only one that I HATE is the team bug durring tagged PvP, I don't even tag up anymore most of the time cus of it :p

It's perfectly understandable that some carnivores won't attack certain herbivores as they know they're not fast enough.

However, please, make the herbivores still afraid of them!
It ruins the real-life feel of their interaction when a baby arana curls up for a nap at the foot of a great jugula. I'm sure the jugula knows a perfect opportunity when it sees one....

It'd be much more realistic if the faster herbivores fled when the slower carnivores approached while the carnivores just lazily ignored them.

Re: Forums: What Bugs You The Most? (by Xavier Antoviaque)

I know this has to do with the lore in that these civilisations are still only just surviving, but I almost want to see more "trappings" of society. Like clocks, weather vains, NPCs shouting the various headlines (which if you wanted to be funny could be various puns or phrases like those used in the loading headlines). Or a market place...like an area where NPCs randomly will gather, as in a few NPCs may go to the market for a random amount of time then leave, and other NPCs may go to the market after they leave. And that could be where the merchant NPCs are...and maybe at random there would be a seedy merchant that would sneak up on you and try to sell you discounted "crap" goods. Or perhaps even new buildings. Like a laboratory, a research center, a hospital...SOMEthing that isn't just a government building, housing, or mission giver locations. Part of me thinks that if the Matis can build skyscraper apartments and the Fyros can build a gate that spews out fire, they should be able to have a few more trappings that make it all feel more real.

And a lot of the times I'll come across a cart sitting in a town, but nothing is pulling it. Would be very interesting to see an advancement in the civilisations by showing bodocs or mektoubs tamed and used like horses/oxen on carts to pull around large amounts of mats. (maybe even pastures out in the wilderness? or farms?...so far the only farms are those that are actually OPs...you'd think that these homins have to eat...but there is no evidence of agricultre. And I do seem to remember when civilisations buckle down and stop being nomadic, the first thing you see is agriculture.) Would even be more interesting to have race missions that involved protecting a group of merchants leaving from one town to another town (or from one tribe to a neighbouring tribe). Or merely see travelling merchants going by with their carts and you could stop them and purchase limited goods (like picks or a very limited access to the player market...like one travelling merchant would only sell earrings of ql 100-150). Perhaps it's just that I want to see NPCs do more than march around. In the wild, sometimes I'll see a ton of tribal warriors march by and know there is no purpose for them. They don't attack anyone, they don't get attacked by mobs, and they don't seem to serve any purpose other than to march around and around.

In general, small items need to be added to indoor areas. There is a serious lack of day to day items visable: Tables, chairs, plates, cups, boxes, jars, beds, lamps etc. Even a little bit added here and there would help the world from not feeling so darn empty in that respect.

Gonna add my request for racial/gender specific emotes as well. And request an explaination as to how I wave by bowing please :)

Allow other characters into your apartment, it's a -prime- place to roleplay gone to waste because you can't invite anyone in. If it's possible for guild halls it should be possible for player apartments :) Perhaps an allowance system or an invite system?

Set guild allignment and player alignment on a different scale so that you are not forced to stay neutral if you join a neutral guild. Is it impossible for people of different factions to come together under a common banner while still holding their own personal beliefs and dedications? I can love my country, my race and my religion and not be so bullheaded that I can't get along with those of another faction.

I would love to see a few things added to the user interface

1. let us chose normal or 90 degree rotated "hands" bar so we can customise the look of our in game screen
2. player customizable tool bar colors ie a slide bar so we dont have to use the default background color

For me the up/down on the "hands" bar is counter intutitive

Remote team invitation / Target teammate in compass

Scrap one or the other because the combination of the two has effectively destroyed an element of fun in the game which required human, player skills. Two people trying to find each other have almost no need to be able to communicate directions or know landmarks and the lie of the land, no opportunity for hilarious misdirection. The "Cleric Commando vs. the Death Timer" (sweet, Calevin :) ) used to be one of my favourite mini-quests but it has become no more than a race, when it used to be a frantic search; and everyone knows that a search is far more fun.

Yeah, I noticed the same. I guess it got 'fixed' with the friends list status fix...

The now deliberatly 'broken' Kami Tolerance. This was such a neat feature where players had an actual impact on the gameworld; areas would get affected by overexploitation by foragers. Right now it's a statline on the foraging window that serves no purpose as the Tolerance hardly drops.

Teleport in, forage, teleport out, rinse and repeat whereas we used to go out and brave the wilds, have some adventure in this supossedly dangerous and everchanging world, exploring and prospecting for materials where we'd otherwise never went.

depends on location. i think KT is good as it is. one char foraging dont affect it much (around 800 to 1000 mats per hour), 2 chars makes it drop slightly (one is halting regen, other is using up mats in KT). add more foragers and KT is zero in notime.
for the math freaks, KT is 10k and regen in 860 mat/hour (or was in some time ;-) about kami tolerance

lowering KT creates a lot of other problems ;-)

I like this idea as well. there are some very easy dig spots out there that are being almost constantly harvested, while the more challenging spots are only visited and rarely ever used as digging grounds.

This could be part of the problem of "worthless" dappers as well, as there are just massive amounts of raw materials available with almost no danger or skill involved in obtaining. just head out to a spot with no aggro and close guards and click your heart off.

Making these spots less desirable again could cause homins to better value thier materials as it can be difficult to get a whole bag in aggro ridden areas, and spots where you cannot empty at a hawker or merch thats always within eyesight, possibly making materials something that are bought and sold with dappers rather than the currency itself.

Improvements

1. I would like to be able to color code player placed landmark flags. This would make it easier to keep track of resource locations versus mobs of interest, etc.

2. I would like to see more quest opportunities of various nature. For example: Harvesting of Materials rather than mission mats. This will encourage players to explore the lands more as well as provide materials for sale or crafting rather than grinding on useless mats just to turn in to NPCs.

3. LESS KITIN in the kitin larva locations! 800 kinrey is a bit ridiculous with the available player resources. It's practically impossible to reach the larva without an army behind you. Simply decreasing the kitin spawn rate in said areas would be a vast improvement.

4. I'd also like to see outposts become available in PR locations. We PR foragers become quite lonely down there in the dark and could use the company ;P

5. The only real BUG I've encountered had to do when purchasing an apartment. After purchasing my apartment I visited a skill trainer; upon selecting a skill and pressing the 'Learn' button, I was promted with the apartment purchase confirmation menu again.. "are you sure you wish to purchase this apartment, all contents of your old apartment will be deleted".
Obviously caused by a client-side memory leak somewhere in the apartment purchase scripting..

6. I would like to see more options for Faction Fame.. a couple of tribes and mass quests becomes redundant and boring quite rapidly.

7. More Kami/Karavan interaction.. perhaps add a bit more PvP/PvM to it. A raid or storyline aspect.. something.. All I see is talk about opinions, etc., but nobody DOES anything about it ;)

That's about the only input I have so far. I've been playing since beta and have enjoyed every minute! Looking forward to seeing continual added content. Great job and keep up the good work.

*Invite/Emote Block
(When homins are added to the ignore list they shouldn't be able to invite (team/exhange/duel) or emote you) :)

* /brb {brb} tag maybe? - For the more short-term distractions... =)
Perhaps even /brb 30 (Countdown timer gives message "Jayce will be back in 30 minutes")

hehe, I'm very much guilty of the same mate, but there must be some homins who actually do return the same day? :D
