Greetings.
I just wanna say hi to the community. I started yesterday - and got killed a LOT of times against them mobs :)
I'm a bit interested in the RP aspect of the game. From what i've seen so far (and its not a lot I admit), the game seem centered around missions. Could anybody help out here? I'm still using the free trial. So i guess my actions are limited until i upgrade to a full account. |
Re: Greetings.
Hi trevdk, welcome to Ryzom.
The one problem with the Ruins of Silan where you are is it gives the impression that missions are more important to the rest of the game then they are. On the mainland missions stop giving xp and items as reward and instead give you a small amount of dappars and fame (your faction rating with the karavan/kami/fyros/matis/tryker/zorai/different tribes etc) which is the main reason people do them. There are also a few encyclopedia missions on the mainland that if you do the right set of missions give you bonuses to your sap stat or the durability of anything you craft. Gameforge have said they are going to add more missions for new players to the mainland but we will have to wait to see what form they take. |
Re: Greetings.
Thank you for the quick reply :)
I have an additional question. How do I actually gain XP? I can see my levels rising slowly (only at level 17 in fighting) and I can see i've got som XP to spend when I speak with the Fighter Trainer. Is the XP only gained through missions? |
Re: Greetings.
Hi trevdk, and welcome to Atys :). *hugs*
You almost made me lose my morning cuppa. Ryzom most certainly does not revolve around missions! For the Free Trial you only have access to the training island, Silan, which has a raft of training missions to help you to learn the game. The game revolves very much more around roleplaying, than around jobs or tasks. |
Re: Greetings.
No problem, ask all the questions you like :)
XP is given from the actions you do, for example fight and offensive magic xp from attacking in combat, defensive magic xp from healing someone in combat or using a defensive spell like fear in combat. Crafting xp is earned for everything you make, harvesting xp for everytime you dig up some materials. It breaks down more then that as your skills get higher and the skill lines break up, for example when fight breaks into melee and ranged you need to fight with the right type of weapon to get melee or ranged xp. That happens for magic, crafting and harvesting too. If you click on a the system info tab in the chat area it lists the xp you get as you get it. Edit: *waves Jamela* |
Re: Greetings.
Stop doing this to me, please! ;)
XP is what you earn whenever you are able to perform an action successfully, and live to tell the tale (like killing a yubo or digging up something from the ground). Skill points, or SP, are what the trainers ask you for in order to learn new skills or upgrades. You get 10SP every time that you achieve a new level in any skill, 10SP for the trainer of that skill tree. Hey Ashling :). And trevdk, the Free Trial limits you to level 21 in each of the four prime skill branches, iirc, Silan is limited to level 50 creatures and materials and skills, has no Range skills (Fighting or Crafting) available at all, and a few other choice skills have been omitted also. Edit: How's that, Ash? :) |

Made me pause there for a second untill I reliased you meant no ranged crafting not all crafting :D |
Re: Greetings.
:) Thanks for all the replies. Think I might upgrade my account tonight. If I do that, how do I get to the main island then?
|
Re: Greetings.
Talk to Chiang the Strong to get the mission that teleports you over to the mainland. I'd sujest you have fun with the missions there first though (if your not finished them) as they are a good tutorial to how the skills work, that first step on the learning curve can be a bit bumpy :)

Re: Greetings.
Thank you acridiel. :)
I have yet another small question. This game seems addictive to me already; Would it be best to complete all the missions for all the races before upgrading to a full account? |
Re: Greetings.
Upgrade before you hit level 21 so that you don't run into that wall.
I'm not sure that there are any race tasks, per se, it just happens that each of the four skill trees has been arbitrarily allocated to one of the races to administer the tasks and training. Stay on Silan and do as many tasks as you feel like, making sure that you try each skill tree out and feel comfortable that you have a grasp on the basics of each one - which is the purpose of just about all of the Silan tasks, I think. Then, when you're also confident about sneaking around Silan successfully, hardly ever attracting predators, consider crossing to the mainland. Leaving some things unfinished on Silan can mean there is something for you to look forward to there if you make another character in the future, which is likely once you have played for more than a few months. |

There is alot of good helpfull guilds on both servers. I'd sujest that you take your time and pick one that really suits you but that could just be me being fussy :) |

Well, some friendly advices: First, think about your faction of election (Karavan, Kami, Neutral); maybe is the same for you, but before chose a guild is important. Don't be limited in faction because your race; that isn't really a problem; there are Kami Matis and Kara Zorais. Second, a lot of guilds are recruiting; don't take the first offer if it really don't convince you, because a lot more will be interested in you, that's for sure. Third, and this is more about your personal preference, but I go to ML without guild and was some time without one... just to know some people, know a little my environment... it's a good experience. Once you join a guild, probably you'll be there (Or in others) all your Atys life, so, the little experience of being without guild is a good vital experience that I', personally, recommends you. I remember with care that time :) And Fourth, get some info about the guilds; you can read a lot in the sections of guilds (Arispotle or Cho, I don't know your server). But, also is good speak with the people who have being some time in ML to know the chit-chat about how the differents guilds works. But, in the actual order of things, remember: You'll not find a guild; they are searching for you ;) |
Re: Greetings.
Seems im learning all the time. I wasnt aware there were several servers available :) I've decided to stay a little longer on Silan. Many other players recommended this to me yesterday. Apparently most recommend to have at least lvl 50 in all skills before moving to ML (and im somewhat far from that).
|
Re: Greetings.
Please don't worry about what level you are.
There are suckling yubos and up on the mainland, you could start there at 1 if you wanted to. I would highly reccomend staying on Silan for the missions, and moving on after those. Silan mobs are not designed to take you to lvl 50, they're too low. You can do it, but its a grind..... more fun on mainland I think. |
Re: Greetings.

I'd agree, although which races city you start in effects it as some are safers starting areas then others but still 35-40 is likely high enough if your worried about it. Although I've never started in the hardest (Matis) area. |
Re: Greetings.
Where would be a good place to start?? Its a bit confussing when trying to read about it on the other forums. :) (maybe i should state that my char is Zorai)
|
Re: Greetings.
All the starting areas have their pros and cons.
One thing to consider is that if you like crafting, you need to talk to your racial crafting trainer to learn better skills or new plans. You can learn the other races basic starting crafting skills for 50 skillpoints, and then you need to improve that races craft skill and learn that races plans separately, which takes a lot of points, and is very hard for a starting crafter. I personally like crafting, so I would recommend starting in your own race's city. Once you get there, it shouldn't be difficult to get someone to take you to the other lands. If you're on Arispotle, let me know and I'll take you, for that matter. Just /tell Kedino. If you're on Cho, maybe Beefy can help? And of course, once you've been somewhere, you can get a teleport pact so you can return anytime. Still, my biggest recommendation would be to not hurry too much... Stay on Silan as long as you like, take the time to enjoy it, then come to the mainland... Take the time to explore, have a look around. Take your time finding and picking a guild, learn about the factions before you choose one... And most of all, don't be afraid to talk to the other homins you meet. Most are very friendly, and only too willing to give what help they can, should you need it. Kedino House Etchmarc |
Re: Greetings.
i would recomend the lakes as a good starting city, it is a pain in the butt to get around with all the swiming but if you ever run into trouble you can also just run into the water. also it propally one of the easiest places to go explore imho.
*EDIT* i wouldnt recomend staying on Silan for to long, if you enjoy finding challanges, i stayed on there till about 41 in offencive magic and 32 fight. then when i got to the mainland and experince all it had to offer i felt like i spent to much time on Silan. |

If your doing crafting I'd go with your home races city because the other races can't teach you Zorai crafting and you'd have to start learning their craft skills (for example fyros armor crafting 1, matis armor crafting 1, etc). From my experiances running through the starting areas; Matis have the most agro in their starting area through the amount of gingos, although they are the most popular race so should get the most amount of player races through their area. Tryker starting area just annoys me, too much swiming and you can't get out of the water here the bank is too step. On the plus side if that doesn't bother you is that the amount of water means if your in trouble in a fight you can run to it for safety making it one of the safest areas and also Trykers are mid popularity as a race choice. Fyros is the area I have the most experiance with, more dangerious then the tryker area because if you get jumped by one of the gingos that is around that you can't beat in a fight your hoping to make it to a guard to help you. There is alot less agro to watch out for then in the matis area though. Fyros are the other mid popularity race. Zorai have a very safe area, I've run around there alot and only around twice gotten agro from a predator. They are the least choosen race though so less players around compared to the other starting areas. But as kedino said there are lots of players that will help you to travel from one city to another to get the teleport pacts so its not a huge decission to worry over. |
Re: Greetings.
Thanks for all the good replies.
Crafting isnt really my thing tbh. I really enjoy the magic and fighting aspect, so I'll probably try and find an area that can honour these specified requirements......and a guild of course :) |
Re: Greetings.
I'd highly reccomend ALL new players start in their home race capital, unless they have a specific reason to go elsewhere. Like coming to the mainland with a group of friends who are mixed civ. (Which was the main concern when the devs implemented the choice of picking your destination on the mainland)
I'd *really* hate to start seeing rumors of one land being better than another being spread around and all the refugees starting to go there. The lands are different, but all equally suited for your training. (Except, as noted, if you're going to do ANY craft at all you should be in your home region) |
Re: Greetings.
Oh I'm glad I peeked into this thread. I think I've finally chosen Matis as my race, and since I already know I will be Kami I wanted to start in Zora or Pyr, (but more Zora ^^) but I also do want to craft so I guess Yrkanis it is for now.
|
Re: Greetings.
Quote:
Start in Zoraļ ;) This new ‘choose where you start thing’ is so not a good idea. What will happen is that the Silan community will sooner or later decide that one area is better than the others and all will start going there o_o cue horrible depopulation of certain zones thus fulfilling the ‘one area is better’ statement. The reason for doing it is that apparently people couldn’t bear to be separated from friends they had met on Silan and would rather quit the game than a) spend an hour or 2 travelling to other lands or, heaven forbid, b) make new friends after leaving Silan. *makes crazy gestures in the general direction of said players and GF* also something that is worth noting; some of the stanza's are unavailable to train - for harvesting read a lot. The higher level you get the more of a problem this will be, so any potential digger should look very carefully at what skills they havent been able to learn and save the SP needed.. Staying to lv50 because you think you need the levels is crazy talk. remember that the starter zones on the mainland are designed for lv 1-50 players, anyone can come over without getting a single level on Silan and have no problems :) |
Re: Greetings.

For faction fame it doesn't matter much where you start. You have to do missions to raise it high enough to join the faction you want and there isn't a huge hurry to do it so you'll have the time to get a trek to other areas. Anyway there is a kami that gives missions just a short walk north of Yrkanis although be carefull with that one some of the missions have negative fame with the local tribes. |
Re: Greetings.
Quote:
or friends that they knew from before and started the game with them and for a totaly new player their first trek is unlikely to be as simple as traveling for and hour or two. I know that doesn't make you any happier about it but still :p |
Re: Greetings.
Quote:
hehe yes, an hour or 2 on a trek, a week or 2 solo :p i know its easy for me to say, as my newbie shyness is very much gone but if ppl ask on the forum, or ingame they will soon find themselves with a group of friendly homins taking them to be reunited with their friends -) |
Re: Greetings.
Quote:
Absolutly. I know lots of players on both Ari and Cho are happy to help new players with treks, I didn't know that when I started though :) |
Re: Greetings.
Okay so if there isn't a hurry to get faction fame missions, when would be a good time? What levels, when would we know it's time to pick a faction? ;)
I wouldn't like to start doing 'quests' in town for the king for example, and find out I've been raising my Karavan fame when I didn't want to. |
Re: Greetings.
Quote:
Well in my case I only recently went kami so I could use the teleports in the primeroots for harvesting. I'm sure there are other reasons though, someone else might be able to share them :p As for acidently getting fame from missions it tells you what fame it effects when you finish it in the system window but also for kami or karavan it has to be from a kami or karavan, if it was from a person in the city it's most likely civilisation faction and one time of any fame mission wouldn't hurt you at all :) BTW the mainland is alot less mission driven compared to the Ruins of Silian, you mostly only do them for the fame. Gameforge have said they want to add some more onto the mainland but we will have to wait and see how those turn out. |
Re: Greetings.
Ah ok! Thanks Ashling now it makes sense :D
|
Re: Greetings.
Im a bit confussed about the difference between Kami and Karavan. Can anyone give me a brief synopsis?
|
Re: Greetings.
Quote:
I'd sum it up as the kami are mysterious beings who respect and care for nature and the whole eco system of the planet and the Karavan are just high tech con artests trying to take advantage of us .... which is why I'm completely unsuited to giving a synopsis of the kami and karavan ;) You'll be best off looking here in the lore section of the website for a synopsis of both groups and forming your own opinion from that :) |
Re: Greetings.
I suspect the lore was what you were looking for, trevdk, but if you want an explanation of how faction affects play, check the faction/race explained thread stickied in this section.
|
Re: Greetings.
Very nice info there :). Kami seems to be the faction im going for - and that should go nicely together with my Zorai char. As mentioned in previously posts, i'll stay a little longer on Silan (only lvl 35 in fighting). Say i want to join Kami, how do I do that?? Do I look for a dedicated Kami guild?
|
Re: Greetings.
The link Jamela posted is a great description of how fame in game works but a quick summary about how it effects guilds is; if your a member of a faction you can only be in a guild that is off the same faction but you can join that guild while still neutral and working towards the fame needed to join their faction.
