Vista hang on loading after character selection
 

Hi I am at my wits end, I downloaded the lastest english client yesterday and creating an account I now have the problem of the game hanging at the end of the loading bar after I choose a character to play.

I have trolled thru the numerous stickies in the support forum and tried every thing suggested for Vista users (admin rights etc) but all to no avail..

I am trying to run the game windowed using direct3d windowed 1024x786.

Running Windows vista ultimate 32 bit 2gig ram 64x2 dual core amd chipset 4200+ and a Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT.

As im using the onboard HD audio from my MB I have also tried with and without sound , it proved no change.

Any suggestions?

Your problem sounds like it is likely to do with your firewall and/or router; please see this thread.

I'm having the same problem (I'm also on Vista x32). However, after a few more tries at launching the game, my ryzom client executable has now stopped working altogether, and crashes as soon as I try to run it.

I have done all that was suggested in the thread about firewall/router problems.

If I remember correctly the default installation goes to C:\Program Files\Ryzom\ , I suggest you copy that folder to your users Program Files folder, and start it from there. That will remove all problems with UAC and running the application as administrator. That should make sure that the background patcher can update the games' files and folders.

I will give more detailed information when I am back home at my Vista system.

Edit:
My installation resides in C:\Users\<username>\Program Files (x86)\Ryzom\ on my Vista 64-bit, so I assume you should be able to install it to C:\Users\<username>\Program Files\Ryzom\

Firewall disabled same thing happens,

Eugh... I really don't like the look of this solution, it's just running around the problem instead of solving it. Plus, I don't have much space on my C drive, I'd rather have Ryzom sitting on another.

Nevertheless I'll try this and see how I go.

EDIT! Now I get this error when trying to login:

EDIT! I did a clean reinstall to C: but now I have the OP's problem again. My game hangs on the second last loading bar after selecting a character... the last one never completes and it just sits there with the music playing.

EDIT! After a few more tries, it now works. I have no idea how.

I have the same problem on both my PCs running Windows XP, so it's not a problem of Vista.
Also, I haven't found any solution...

I wonder, could it be you're using Xfire?

If you do you might want to try starting Ryzom without it in the background. I had a similar (the same?) problem but found it was gone once I shut down Xfire...

(you can start it once you're at the log in but if it's running it may prevent the game from starting up correctly)

Using Vista, Same problem, no Xfire, no firewall is blocking Ryzom and I tried 3 times now.

Vista 64x here. SAME PROBLEM. No anti-virus, no firewall, nothing. Nobody knows a solution?
