Arrow [FAQ] "Can't create a window display (1024x768 32 bits)" or white textures

Onboard video chips such as Intel, SiS, lower end Mobility Radeons, etc will not usually work well with Ryzom.
You may get the "Can't create a window display (1024x768 32 bits)" error or see white everywhere. You will definitely get some lag.

First things first is to ensure that your desktop resolution is at least 1024x768 and colour depth is 32 bits. You can do this by adjusting your display adapter settings either by right clicking an empty spot on your desktop and selecting 'Properties' from the menu and then selecting the 'Settings' tab.

Next thing is to run the 'game configuration' from the launcher, from the Start menu (Start button -> All Programs -> Ryzom -> Configure Ryzom), or by running the file "ryzom_configuration_rd.exe" from the Ryzom installation folder, and do the following:
-- lower all sliders to 'low' in 'display details'
-- select 'OpenGL' from 'display'
-- click 'apply' and launch the game

If you still have the error then try the following in the configuration:

-- disable all 4 options in 'display advanced' and click 'apply'
-- launch the game
-- click 'No' if the window pops up asking is you wish to run the game in Direct3D
-- click 'No' when the message about 'AGP not detected' comes up

-- when in game, open the 'game configuration' window (Syatem -> Game Configuratiom) and disable 'shadows' and 'microvegetation' and lower the 'LoD' clip distance sliders for 'Landscape' and 'Characters' if they are not already set to 'low'
-- you will might still see missing textures and things may not look the best, but you can play around with settings more
