Impossible to download the client
Is there a chance of finding somewhere on the net a torrent or an archive containing the installation files uploaded by the Ryzom staff or by a player?
I am at more than 30 failed attempts and counting at trying to download the client. The client downloader stops and gives an error message either at the 2nd or the 7th out of 108 files need for the minimum install. Only once I got "lucky" and I managed to download up to the 16th file. I read all the threads and all the stickies cocerning downloader problems, I edited the hosts file, I emptied the Temp folder, I turned off the firewall, I turned off the antivirus, nothing helped. |

Re: Impossible to download the client
Are you having trouble downloading the client or updating the client? Those are two different things? And can you inform us of the exact error message? As usually it gives some hint to your problem.

Re: Impossible to download the client
I have trouble downloading the client, more preciselly the RoS only client, the 616 mb one and I am receiving 2 different errors.
Error 1 http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/5814/ryzokt6.jpg "Please make sure you have sufficient disk space and that your internet connection is operating correctly." I have 8-9 gb worth of free disk space and my connection is working perfectly. "You will be able to continue the install process where you have left it by clicking on the Ryzom icon on your desktop." This is so false, the downloader doesn't resume the download but starts from scratch each time. This is so stupid, getting the same files over and over and over again, managing to download ~550/616 mb, receiving an error message and having to start all over. Error 2 http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/3443/ryzo2po0.jpg The original error window is the one at the top, pressing "click here" opens the second error window, pressing "click here" one more time opens the third error window. What was wrong with the classic install kit that it needed to be replaced by such a program? I don't seem to be the only user having problems with the downloader/patcher. |

Re: Impossible to download the client
Greetings,
By any chance are you attempting to install on Windows Vista? If so this may be a permissions problem. Under Vista, your user account needs read/write privileges in both the target and destination directories. Also Installshield sometimes balks if the installer and the destination are on different drives, giving you a disp space error even when you have ample space.

Re: Impossible to download the client
Nope, I'm using Win XP SP2 and the installer is on the same drive as the destination but I finally managed to download and install the client after more than 50 tries.
Downloading and installing the game was one thing, getting Ryzom to run was a completely different thing, it was a saga in itself (pun intended). It went like this: 1. The installer forgot to move some 20 files from the \unpack folder to the main folder. I moved them. 2. Some .ttf file not found. I had to copy it from blaah's archive (he had pmed me earlier with a link to a file package made by himself). 3. several www*.dll files not found. I had to copy them from blaah's archive. 4. several nel_drv_*.dll files not found. I had to copy them from blaah's archive. 5. Runtime error. I searched the forums looking for solutions that included upgrading to IE v7 (I did it), installing the newest video card drivers (I did it), emptying the \unpack folder (I did it), reinstalling Windows (I wasn't desperate enough to do it). Nothing helped, the runtime error was stil there and when I was about to give up but then I noticed a .log file, I read it and the last line was saying something about another .ttf file not found. I found the file in a folder in blaah's archive, I copied the entire content of that folder to my Ryzom folder, it fixed the runtime error and allowed me to run the game. So a big thanks goes to blaah for his help and a big :thumbs down: for the game client. |
