Refugee forum, just in case

We need a gathering place just in case this place disappears without warning.

If nobody else has done so, I'm willing to set one up (and pay for it).

Please respond if something already exists, or with ideas for a domain name.

Also, suggestions for forum software to install (php/mysql preferred but my mind is open)

I looked at vBulletin which runs this place, but it costs and there are free alternatives.

I'll give you a day for input then I'm going ahead with it. (Unless I hear it's been done already.)

Have you looked at http://www.wowbb.com/? They offer hosting and software for about $10 a month. It is custom BB software.

Maybe an ordinary web hosting service + a good CMS would suit better than a pre-made solution. A donationware button in the home page would also be a good idea

I can run or host a forum for free. But what I think would be the best solution is to have one of our current (private) forums just opened up for the public and we could use that as a gathering place. Possible forums that could be used are Kami Alliance forums, Guardians of Life's forums or Ballistic Mystix. Just using these as examples, because they are fully functional and professional looking forums, and they already have a lot of active players signed up on them.

Perhaps someone with an existing forum will throw it open to all. That would be fine with me.

In the meantime, I quickly put together a temporary forum to be available until something more permanent happens.

I'm still hoping this will all prove unnecessary. But I'm wearing my life jacket and sitting in the lifeboat, just in case.

phpbb is pretty stable we used it for a gaming communites forums before.

if you need money for the domain registration, ill cover that for a year.

The money for domain reg is not a problem. Hosting is not a problem. I've got all that covered.

Just looking for suggestions. (Domain name anyone?)

I've used phpbb a number of times, that will be my default if nothing significantly better is suggested.

Kami Alliance has a few public forums.
