Windows vs Linux server...
Added by grego about 5 years ago
Ok - obviously the client is going to be on Windows but is there any advantage (other than the standard "linux is easier to manage/better/etc") to run the server on linux rather than windows. I mean personally I'm more comfortable on linux from an admin standpoint but I'm just curious.
What is everyone else compiling under?

At this point Windows maybe considered easier to compile with the current issues the Linux vets have where a newbie like me already got all of the servers compiled fine.
I think your going to find though no matter what in the future Linux will be better because of the networking and how windows tends have a slight throttle to it but also the massive GUI take up so many resources.
Heck I bet you there might be even more features that only work on Linux I noticed they have a graph system in place on the openshard a lot of them applications are Linux only.
At this point my personal goal is to get it working in Windows learn and understand more then setup the server that others would access on a Linux box.

It's just an historical reason. Nevrax developers worked on Windows for both client and server. But since we wanted to run the live server on Linux, they had the run on both OS.
So we use windows to develop and debug servers and linux to run live servers.

Very cool thanks for the information vl. That really gives us a little history and great also so people know it does work on both systems just fine and not out dated or broken from one os to the other besides little issues that come up :)
