Georges Cross-platform port
Added by fubasa about 5 years ago
After talking to ace on irc and having a look at Qt as he suggested I am going to start work on creating a cross-platform version of Georges. Although having a look through the program, and still being fairly unfamilliar with it I have gotten the feeling that I personally would like to change some things in terms of look and feel.
The question is, as an end-user of the application, would you like to see something more visually appealing, rather more flexibility or somewhere in the middle?
For now, one thing that I as an end-user would be bothered with is the way the MDI component works. There is no visual tracking of which files you are working on with one exception being the current file (mdi window) which is focussed, other than going to the Window item on the menu. Functional and effective? Not in my opinion.
So, for a solution I suggest using a tabbed-interface with the MDI component to give a better visualization of the current file being worked with, but also ones that are currently open. Below is an illustration of how I would see it work. Each time a file is created/opened a subwindow will be created as a tab within the MDI component.
Any comments or suggestions for any other improvements are welcome.
Regards

I also would prefer a tabbed interface :)
That's a great idea to convert Georges to Qt ! That's one of the most important part for level design.
Thanks a lot and good luck :)

Hi Fubasa,
i also planned to port georges but you were faster :) So if you need any help, just ask!
Back to your question, yes tabbed interface is great and somehow more modern. What i missed too in the old editor, was something like a checkbox to not show all dependcies of the file (inherited attributes) but simply the content of the selected one.
So good luck!

We would need also to improve editing of several items at once :)
For example, if I want to put the same icon for 10 items.
