I like "come and play on my shard" idea.

But I think providing technical information and guides on that site is a bad idea, because it just further splits the documentation. Why not put the guide / howto stuff on dev.ryzom.com wiki and use your site just for playing together, roleplaying and stuff like that.

Also FreeRyzom.com makes it sound like your supporting the development of Ryzom private servers which is not at all what Ryzom Core is about. The Game Ryzom is still very much a closed source Commercial game so it would still be illegal to create private servers of Ryzom.

So what is Ryzom Core about? Ryzom Core is about creating brand new games using Nel with the Ryzom framework as a starting point for your NEW game. It also creates a community of developers that can then go ahead and advance the technology as a whole while at the same time advancing the Ryzom Commercial game. New developers mean new and fresh ideas that the developers at winch gates may or may not have come up with them selves. They are then free to add or discard any of the new ideas they want.

You also need to realize (and I'm not a lawyer here) that your use of the name "Ryzom" may infringe on the "real" Ryzom trademark. Since it easily causes customer confusion I would think they have basis for a cease & desist via legal action.

Consult your attorney obviously.

Personally, I agree with MMO and rti - why not contribute what you find back to the wiki for everyone rather than fork the docs?

Free Ryzom to me seams illegal and unmoral.

They don't want Ryzom clones they want you to use the source code to build your own game... They still run their paid servers... Something like FreeRyzom.Com sounds like it's trying to hurt the company.

Also I agree with RTI again with the guides and such bad idea splitting it up.

Greetings,

Oh, sorry, I did not mean to come across as wanting to split up something as new as this. Heck, I have spent the last week just trying to get the thing to compile. I just wanted a localized place to help show off everyone's work. With other dev groups I have particpated in, they never really like people posting, "look what I did with your software" or "play on my world". So, that was my reasoning. I will remove the things that lead you to think of this as a fork and keep it simply as a list and my personal notes.

If you want to stop any possible legal action you will have to change your very domain name and start all over from the start.

well i know that a lot has change for second life and opensim, including the websites and the clients. i kind of like the idea of ryzom or something like it. since FSF is partnered, they may have their ideas, since they have supported a lot of trademark in the past.

i tried to get everquest to have a open source since years ago. it went no where, but i had intended to keep EQ somewhere in there. so it depends on the contract and right now software companies are not good at writing contracts. they only do it after the fact.

i know that to used "ryzom inside" is an old idea but i would like to have something like that. you dont want to lose ryzom entirely.
