Ideas for Implementation

Some of the things that were missing from this engine or game.

lack of jumping character.
lack physics to the hills and mountains where it is possible to jump or fall.
lack any system of raids in scenarios with individual quests.
lack a mode where swimming is possible to swim below the water.

I wonder what else you think is missing for this engine to compete with others on the market.

one of the modifications that would be suitable to be implemented in the engine would be the deployment of NVIDIA's physics engine, and use of the graphics engine Ogre3D.
but I believe it is very difficult to separate the implementation of this technology used in engine NEL.

After playing with the engine for a couple weeks I came to the conclusion that in order to get 3 of the mentioned missing items one would be required to gut the physics and remove the Ligo system. If I was to go this route it be better to use a different graphics library and physics library.

Since I am now ripping apart the core I may as well go from scratch and build a entire new engine.

I don't mean this is a bad way. Ryzom has its place but in modern game technology it is behind the curve. In order to bring it up to competitive standards the package needs a major overhaul.

Conclusion is that there are better packages out there to build on so if this engine does not meet the requirements for your game design you may want to look elsewhere.

There's such a system, it's called Ryzom Ring :).
Ryzom Ring is an instance editor.

The 3 others points are in fact the same one, lack of physics engine.

re: jumping, I think even if the engine was modified so that players can graphically "jumps", and not functionally jumps, it might appease a set of population that thinks it's un-natural to not be able to (which I have heard time and time again since 2004). So if you give a way for a player to mimmick jumping graphically, maybe adding new animations for avatars to do a tiny hop with a new key press, but not change any of the current physics or boundaries (things they couldn't jump over before they still won't be able to jump over, i.e. all invisible walls still there), that might be a good feature to try to implement.

I was thinking about the same trick :).
