On what infrastructure does the "official" ryzom run at the moment? (Server-os, what components on what server etc.)

Hi, dear devs and operators of Ryzom,

i know it's a delicate question to ask on what infrastructure the "official" game runs (the game i will pay subscription for, once my 21 days ran out), as we're talking security here.

Nonetheless, i'd like to know as much as to know what is the minimum needed to run a real-world game, while keeping the option to scale up with some ease.

So i just make a wild and most probably wrong guess, so that you see what i have in mind:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Application servers:
3 (dual-cpu, cpus are multicore, servers, each with 64 GB Ram, 250GB Raid5, OS Windows 2003 enterprise)
OR
8 (virtual servers running on ESX not specified carrier-system, each VM having two cores, 16GB Ram, 50 GB VHDD, OS Windows 2003 standard)

The number of servers reflecting the need to update servers with a new release, while the other servers keep up the game with all players.
The servers have load-balancing implemented in the ryzom-code (is that true? Hardware-loadbalancers are expensive, only common in big IT-departements).

Database:
2 clustered (fail-over) database servers, 4 dual-core cpus each, each 64 GB Ram, OS Windows 2003, Database is MS SQL 2005
OR
2 clustered (fail-over) database servers, 4 dual-cpus each, each 64 GB Ram, OS Ubuntu LTS 64 Bit, Database is MySQL

Webpage:
Is not hosted on the servers, but on LAMP-servers of the external hoster, user-registration is transferred to the database-servers via script, once the users are validated. (This is not needed on your open shard, but there you hacked your own login... ? :)
-----------------------

As you see: A really wild guess. :-)
I'm not necessarily interested in the number of servers you run the game on now, but the minimum number of servers required on each layer.
Your configuration could easily be simpler that this.

Hope i hear from you... :-)

Cheers,
Ragnar G.D.

Ragnar G.D.,

I would be seriously surprised if you received a response to this question publicly. This is as close as you'll probably find:

"The architecture is completely modular. In 2004, a Ryzom shard ran on 8 servers and now with the power of new computer we can run the same shard on a unique server."

My suggestion would be to send an email:

"If you have a specific question that you want to keep private, please contact Vianney Lecroart, the CTO of Ryzom at ."

I still doubt they will provide the information. Most companies will not.
