The Proclamation of the Matis

Greetings homins, I bring you tidings of the unrest in Atys. As the days grow darker all lands prepare for the coming struggle and governments cannot sit still any longer.

Last night in the eyes of the noble Miani Sinia the herald of the guild of the Royal College, Libi Freldo announced the words of the Matis Royalty : his majesty king Yrkanis and the lady Lea.

"Honourable Matis, please pay heed to this most august declaration from our most beloved Monarchs, King Yrkanis and Lady Lea.

Faithful subjects, the situation is grave. Both of the major powers that hold sway over Atys have decided to face each other in confrontation. Jena, assisted by the Karavan, will face Ma-Duk and the Kami in a merciless battle. It is foolish to believe that this confrontation shall be anything other than apocalyptic in scale, scope and intensity.

We cannot know if Atys shall survive this conflict. Whatever the end of this war is we shall participate, this is not a conflict that can be left to pass us by. Come what may we shall hold to our position and give good account of ourselves. For too long a time we have abandoned the future which is ours by right. To conquer the common races and to reign over this world.

The hour has come for Matis to awaken and to show the world the true measure of our strength and the value of the noble blood which flows in our veins. The enemy cannot ignore us, for each of us will have his part to play in the coming battle with the weapons to which he is best suited. Many homin will align themselves to the enemy banner of Ma-Duk and others could well join with the enigmatic Tryton who may so foolishly oppose our will.

We shall have to face the Kami, but in doing so we can count on Jena's assistance. When Jena comes to Atys at the head of her celestial legion we shall be given gifts to take the fight to the enemy. Celestial weapons shall allow us to challenge the Kami themselves.

This conflict is an opportunity for our people, the event for which we have waited, the event which shall cover us in glory and render our names immortal. And yet, still, we are far from this day. Let us be patient and let us make ready. Soon our faithful lieutenants shall bring word to you of what we expect of you.

May Jena keep you in her generous protection."

Homins, heed my words!

What the .... ?!?

"Conquer the common races"? We're your allies in Tryker; not some "common race" you can just conquer when you feel the urge. If you think we'll go back to being your slaves, you couldn't be more mistaken. The Tryker have never been has fanatical about worshipping the Karavan as you; rhetoric like this could cost you this alliance.

More and more this is feeling like a war being shoved down our throats for no good cause except hunger for power. Stop now before you tear us all apart and leave us easy pickings for the Kitin menace!

I'm afraid Matis royalty wants to relieve days of old, where they did indeed rule over Tryker lands.

This is not a good day, and makes me ashamed of my Matis heritage. But, I will fight against my brothers in my home land if they insist on tearing our world further apart. The Kami will, as always, have my full support.

Re: The Proclamation of the Matis

In a tavern under the cover of dim lights and speaking in hushed tones with other Matis who are grumbling quietly about the recent proclamation:

I am new to Yrkanis, true enough. But in my search for specific information about my adoptive father, I have come across one overwhelming fact. When was the last time you have seen any direct communication with King Yrkanis? I have not come across a single other Matis who has seen him in ages. According to the legends and the stories told to me as a child, Yrkanis is a nobel Matis of action who had strong ties with the Trykers and the Zorai. This is the man I came to this land to serve under. I am willing to go to war to protect my kin, but not under pretenses of a false leader! We must find the truth before we blindly listen to these words.

Re: The Proclamation of the Matis

In the Council chamber of our guildhall:

Has Yrkanis gone mad? Does he truly believe homins should fight one another over the bickerings of the gods? Perhaps his mind is being influenced by the Karavan or some evil power.
We must discover what has caused him to make such an inflamatory proclamation. It may not be too late to prevent war.
Perhaps this mysterious guild of Elias could help, but how to contact them?

King Yrkanis is speaking like a true Matis, unlike many others in our fine forest who seem to have grown soft. History has not shown us to be weak and we will once again choose our own destiny.

I too wondered why such important words were given by a 3rd party. If it were a simple proclamation about a trade agreement or something equally mundane, I wouldn't expect to see him. But this is nearly a declaration of war upon the rest Atys (common races indeed; I'll give you "common"!). Even if he doesn't wish to speak directly, we could have stood with his messenger to give the message the credibility it needs.

Is it possible King Yrkanis is under the influence of an external force that will not allow him to speak directly to us because we would recognize that it was not his true words?

Also, I too am willing to go to war to protect my kin, but I am Tryker. If the Matis have abandoned their belief in racial unity and equality, I can not stand with them. Even if they tell us they just meant the Fyros/Zorai, how can we believe it with such rhetoric? If I fight with them and then they turn on us in the future, I will not have been "protecting my kin" at all.

Yesterday, at the council meeting in Tryker, one of your guild told us that unless we all gird up for war now and fight the evil Kami, we are race traitors. Yet, your King's rhetoric and yours indicate a desire for conquest. If I stand with you and your intention is to subjugate all homins (including my people), then I truly am a race traitor.

Choosing your own destiny? When the gods comes and command you to fight and you jump up like a trained gingo? What exactly are you choosing?

You are in a Matis guild are you not ?

OOC:The "one of your guild" thing is bad RP, we all have names that we use to represent ourselves IG. If this player was a Matis they were absolutely IC to say that. We serve Jena of course, but we are also arrogant Matis and the words of our King are the words of a true Matis. Before we worry about racial things, we need to pay more attention to the followers of Ma-Duk... if you are not prepared for that, it wont matter the Matisian intentions.

Yes. If this arrogant attitude was in my guild at any time, I would never have joined. It is not. My guild continues to stand for racial unity and accepts members from all races without referring to them in a condescending manner.

OOC: I presumed DollyDagger spoke for your guild at the council. I apologize if that was bad RP, but I don't understand why it was. Since her statement was so similar to yours (just more inflammatory), it seemed relevant to this... I never implied she was out of character nor have I been out of character (until this bit, of course)
