Re: Level cap on Starter Island

Yeah 100 may be a bit much but I tossed it out there as an example. 50 would probably be a more reasonable number.

Or a couple weeks of more...enthusiastic play. To be honest, when you put it like that I think it's a great number.

a cap of 21 is ridiculous !!!

I have been on the starter isle, and you can't finish all the quests if you have a level 21 cap! 21 just gets you into the first part of learning the game and its mechanics.

Why have the jungle area with lvl 35-40 mobs and q45 mats if no one can kill or dig them?

A level cap of 40 would accomplish the same objective of moving people on, but would also not frustrate the heck out of them and make them leave early.
Heck the old starter island was a place where even in a week you could get far above 21!

Why have unlimited time, but then let people only get to a level that will be reached in a couple days.

Bad move - hope it is changed - and FAST - before we lose a lot of those people that have been breathing some new life into the community on Atys

Please read things. You cant finish all the quests hence get a paid account and you can.

Re: Level cap on Starter Island

With this action of capping the levels, it is my opinion that Nevrax should maybe look into other ways to pay for subscription other than Credit Card or Paybycash. I have seen several people say that they can hit the level 21 caps in 2 days (personally I can do it in much less) so I will use 2 days as an example.

I don't have a credit card, so Paybycash is my only option and from experience with subscribing to Ryzom via Paybycash I know the transaction is going to take about 2 weeks to go through.

Now lets say I take a day to decide to subscribe, if I continue to play the game at the rate of capping in 2 days, I will have leveled 7 characters to the level cap and have an 8th halfway there. The only other option would be to play for 13 days without getting anything from it, or to quit playing until the subscription went through, or a combination of the 3.

All in all, I could see this being very frustrating for the majority of players, I for one left the game last year for this very reason. The 14 days, combined with the fact that you have to redo it every single month was just too much for me to deal with, but payment options is something for another post.

My thoughts when I saw the cap, and what I read in most of your posts, is that Nevrax is after some quick bucks, hoping they can gain a lot of one month subscribers, which IMO is a mistake, but who am I to speak.

I also see a lot of comments stating that the trial players are putting a strain on the system, and even seen one that insinuated that RoS was the possible cause of 2 crashes last week. If this is actually the case, what is going to happen if and when they get more subscribers?

Don't get me completely wrong here, I love the game, but capping the starting area to level 21 for people on trial is a mistake IMO unless, as I mentioned before, the whole plan was to get a whole bunch of one month subscriptions in which case it was the perfect decision.

Enough of my rambling, was just getting tired of reading comments from people that either don't want, or don't care if Ryzom grows. I'm guessing they just can't see the forest for the trees.

Well, I suppose a casual player might need more time to really experience the game. If I am playing 40-60 hours a week, I will get to grips with the game very soon. If I was getting maybe 3 hours a night in, five days a week, and having to go off to check on the baby or somesuch, then it might be a month before I can really say that I have a handle on it.

If anything, a casual gamer might need to spend longer in the game (because of the brevity of his gaming sessions) to really soak up the atmosphere. It is much easier to lose yourself in a game when you have been online for 16 hours straight.

To be fair, I felt more upset by the speed with which you reach level 21 than the level chosen. I might have enjoyed it more if I had not gained so much experience in such a short period. I know how much players hate the 'N' word but perhaps nerfing the experience would be a good thing.
You have to wonder if the XP is excessive when you finish the last quest in a set and jump from lvl 19 to level 21 (and capped) in the course of one quest-reward...

They get a free month when they subscribe so for like a tenner you get two months to test it, thats not bad it is ?

No game out there gives a player a month play umlimited trial, no company in their right mind would do that it makes no economic sense. To be hoenst I'm all for a good trial but if people wont cough up a few quid for two months too try the game I'm not bothered because the only people thats keeping out are the annoying children who need mummy and daddys credit card to pay for them.

I don't believe you get a free month any longer since no purchase of the game is necessary. You just sub up and start paying the monthly from the start (there was a thread in the customer support section a while back about it)

I could tell you one game where you could play months on end for free, sure you don't get any of the stuff from the expansions, but there are many that do very well without the expansion stuff, so don't go saying that "no" game does it.

I'm not sure whether to take this as an insult or not, but the way it is worded, I will take it as that. Not everyone has the ability or the desire to get a credit card, and the non credit card option that is currently available I find to be rediculous in the amount of processing time from the time the action is initiated to the time Nevrax actually gets the funds and activates the subscription. By continuing to offer this option and not looking into other possibly quicker ways to accomplish this, Nevrax is shooting themselves in the foot.

In game I had really felt that this was a community that I would like to join and feel comfortable in, but the more I read stuff in the forums, I realize this is not the case. In reading the forums I am finding more and more the same kind of people I find in every other MMO I have played, which was what I was hoping I had escaped when I came here.

The more that I read, the more I realize that some of the most negative posters aren't interested at all in increasing the population of Ryzom.

Possibly some of my posting could be described in this one sentence ?.
I do present my points without 'please' and 'could we discuss all other approaches'...I will (attempt) to follow your example Kattan...and only speak when I have something constructive to add
