To everyone who doubts what's now in www.ryzom.com/news c'mon, after 2 years of telling us the truth give them a chance and accept that if they say there are some buyers, then really there are some buyers. Therefore worrying is not for now but some 3 to 6 months after the game is bought by someone.

Saddened indeeed we can be not about Ryzom but about Nevrax people themselves who certainly didn't deserve that after all the creativity and worked put in here.

Well said Faa, I agree totally. Nevrax have always been very open with it's player base and kept us informed and even consulted us on changes. They have been as open as they can be while involved in CONFIDENTIAL negotiations.

My only concern is the speed that this seems to have happened. One minute all is looking good, we're hearing the investors are happy and sticking with the game. Next minute, Nevrax are folding and the game's future is in doubt.

At the moment all anyone is doing is speculating and, to some extent, scare-mongering. Have a little faith in Nevrax people. I'm sure they'll do the best they can for the future of the game, as they have in the past. It is very sad that Nevrax must fold. Let us hope that they can secure the future of the game before they do.

Until things become clearer, which any negotiations obviously can't do until they're concluded, all we can do is hope that the game can continue. We can also hope that many of the people currently employed to develop and support the game continue to do so in some capicity. That would be the real shame, if all those people who cared about this game lost their jobs too.

After all we'd just be losing a game, not an income. For 2 and a half years, Ryzom (and Nevrax) has been part of my life. Losing it would leave a large hole but I'm sure I'd get over it. Let's hope I don't have to find out anytime soon.

Re: I am truly saddened...

Bump to what Faa said and whatever happens I would like to offer my personal thanks to Nevrax for bringing Ryzom to us and their creativity and perserverance over the past years.

For sure there may be some areas of the game open to some critique but thier openess and support of the players is not really one of those areas, anyone who has played anything else will know this.

Should the worst happen and the lights get turned out they will go out with the distant echo of Tryker rifleshots as I am keeping the faith and dont beleive such a good game will be let to die.

As I have said elsewhere fingers crossed for all of us, the players, the game, and the Nevrax staff, for a positive outcome.

Re: I am truly saddened...

I think that the company buying Nevrax will buy the working team. The [u]running[/i] game with his suscriptor base is the biggest asset, so it surely will continue.

I have always think that the bigger leak in Nevrax bussiness is the marketing. I think that the best (and possible) scenario is that the new administration follow the line (With some changes, that's for sure) and centers himself in the marketing.

I think that the roadmap will be follow for a year or so, maybe making some changes to make more attractive the game for the I'm-bored-of-WOW payer's market. And that's all.

Maybe I'm a optimistic guy

Re: I am truly saddened...

Your sad news is my good news.

Nevrax would make an awesome MMO think tank. Execution and implementation of said games is piss poor at best.

This game WILL get sold. It will go on. That much I am certain.

For the new owners I would highly recommend not adding any "new" features except this Kitin Land (assuming it's more than 30% done like everything else Nevrax spits out). I would highly recommend finishing features that are not fully implemented but are in game. Giving the new owners time to learn the finer points about the game. Who knows how long this transitition period will take too. I'm guess Nevrax will still be involved for at least 3-9 months till the takeover is complete. I look forward to that day.

Re: I am truly saddened...

I just got here, now we're going bankrupt, selling off the game. What the hell. Can a good game last? I'm saddened as well. Has anyone here ever thought that MAYBE nevrax is a bonehead where it comes to money. Maybe he has made some bad choices with the game revenue. From all I have read, he wants to play with the big boys and he doesnt realize he can't. Why? he's a nobody who made a really bitchen game and is using the game reveue to try and expand the game and try to compete with the big boys. When a game gets some exposure and people start to come, there is an expectation of, content, support, new stuff, and fixes. Nevrax cant do it alone now or with a couple friends, he needs to hire a staff now. The point is after reading the forums for 2 days now, the reason this may happen to Ryzom is because the community keeps pushing for more content and for more, more, more. Otherwise no one will stick around. If nevrax had the time to do what need to be done in his own time without a large team of devs, it could have taken years to get where we are now in the game. No one would wait and wait for a couple guys to do the whole thing by themselves. The community would have been gone along time ago if that were the case. I'm sure that if the Ryzom community could take a break for a while and quit asking for shit, he could reduce his staff and start making a profit again. Thats just my view according to what ive read on the forums, but then again I'm an idiot so what do I know....... I don't know anything. I just play games and dont complain about content all the time.

If the French version of Chapter 11, and let's remember, this is a French company and US bankruptcy laws do not apply, then that would be the equivalent of Chapter 7, which is liquidation.

Liquidation is sell the IP, the office furniture, the coffee maker and the potted plant in the corner.

If the game is shut down, the revenue stops and all the creditors get is some used office furniture, the developer's workstations, and the now debased IP of the game code--effectively nothing.
If you shutdown and airline you have assets like planes and gate leases that have value even if they aren't being used.

If the creditors sell to a company who will keep the game running, they get a more of their investment back. The buyer gets the revenue stream, the rights to the code and assume the contracts for servers, bandwidth and support (probably, some buyers may break these contracts and run their own support/servers). The buyer will likely pay much less than the costs of development and so it will be cheaper keep Ryzom running. E.g. Nevrax is paying interest on development costs plus the ongoing costs of development, server leases, bandwidth and support; the buyer pays it's lenders a faction of the development costs plus ongoing costs. The buyer may skimp on new development and support, but more likely will have the resources to expand development.

If the buyer isn't part of an evil empire (Microsoft, Sony, Disney), the outlook for the players isn't too bad.
If the player base, as a revenue generation device, wasn't enough to keep Nevrax solvent, what in the world makes you think that anyone will but it? Are you suggesting that another company will buy someone's idea (which is really what IP is) and a revenue generation model that cannot support itself? That is what any business school would call stupid, err a bad business decision.

As for doom and gloom, why not? This way, I won't be disappointed with the result. I, for one, would love to be proven wrong. That's the kind of "egg on my face" I can live with...
