What is coveted by one may attract attention of others

Just remember "positive" for now

Re: Check your inboxes people.

Ryzom source code for client was planned to be open source at earlier times... The client is free, we only need to pay for our account and access to the servers So why not releasing the Ryzom source code ?

With the project from ryzom.org, I suppose everyone will be able to help to code Ryzom (all employees from Nevrax as well as volonteers players). The donation has for primary aim to purchase the source code. Players will be able to do all they want with it. I suppose that a group of people will create a SVN or CVS server and developpement of Ryzom will be open to everyone

I think this project could succeed and I'm happy to contribute

I'm a NeL user/programmer and I think I understand how Ryzom works, so for me it's a great opportunity

We also have a lot of motivated french players (with some CSRs ) who are developping Game Lore and Storyline ( http://ryzom.kervala.net/forum/ )...

On Aniro server, we want to give power (political, millitary, etc...) to players, so it's a new step in the right direction

Power to players !

Re: Check your inboxes people.

I have responsibility and obligations in life that keep my finances and time maxed out, Ryzom is a game that I use for relaxation and recreation....Offering moral support is something I can obviously do, practical or financial is beyond my current capability. I am sure a lot of people in the 'real life grind' are in a similar position to me. My 'spare' money and time is directed toward my immediate family....not The Ryzom staff.
It's a reality that exists even in this time of hope and improbable suggestions. This is a factor against a player buyout suceeding.

You realise this would cause the biggest mess on the face of the planet, right?

Imagine this. A team of paid coders. Probably a couple dozen people (this is a guess). Then you've got several hundred people on top of that creating code for the game without any testing, projects, or direction.

Now imagine that 24 strong team of paid coders who has to either jsut let all the free player code jsut run, or they can test it and hopefully decipher it.

Like I said before, as much as I love all of you, I wouldn't trust a single one of you to code Ryzom or choose what it needs. (myself included)

Community project is all well and good in theory, but I'd really not want to see it in practice. Not on a game that plans to continue to develope.

Re: Check your inboxes people.

Hum, there are a lot of methods for checking code and I'm sure there will be a project leader, differents groups for testing, etc...

Do you know Linux, OpenOffice.org, Firefox, etc... ? They are all open source projects with several coders both paid or not...

And finally do you know Freespace 2 SCP (Doom, Quake 1 and 2 and a lot of other games are in the same case) ?

Freespace 2 was a great game released in 1999, then its creator decided to release the source code to the community in 2002 and a new project was created : Freespace 2 Source Code Project ( http://scp.indiegames.us )

The game uses now the last technologies and continue to be developped by the community
