Spoiler Sites...

**Note, I am not saying the mentioned website is a spoiler... just a great fansite.

I have been looking at www.ballisticmystix.com for hours every day. What a fantastic fan site. They have really put in a ton of effort and time to make a dedicated Ryzom Site. I am very impressed... as I dabble in web design and can see a LOT of work... its daunting.

Some people view spoiler sites as *looks around warly* cheating. Well, maybe it is, and maybe it's not. I still use them, it makes things loads easier... some may say that it takes away from the game experience to be handed all the answers... they probably have a lot of truth to that argument, but...

anyway, you can all discuss spoiler sites and their valitity etc.. etc... but I have been looking for a site that, like BallisticMysticx shows mat locations... but for the newbie islands. (I know, they are only Q20... but i am experimenting with some things, and I'm wasting hours looking for mats...)

So, if anyone knows of any links or sites like BallisticMystix... that maps out material spots on the Newbie Islands... Matis/Zorai.... I would very much appreciate it.

And if you have something to say about anything... I give you permission so say it here.

Re: Spoiler Sites...

I guess I view sites like this as nothing more than a mechanism for the community to share information. A great deal of the information on the BM site has been provided by people outside of our guild. It's really a community effort.

I feel it's no different than asking other people in the game were something is. These sites just act as a repository for those answers.

Now if these sites were giving out information that wasn't directly obtained from within the current live servers, that'd be another story. For example, if I was to show information from the ATS server, I'd consider that a "spoiler". BTW, I don't have ATS access and as far as I know, I've not added the few submissions for things that I've received off the ATS server (i.e. the upcoming rites).

Also, I've often ran across sites for games I've played where it's clear that they were able to directly look at the various resource files of the client to gather information (images, models, etc.). This can also lead to a situation I'd consider a spoiler when you can get data that's not currently live on the server (some new mob that hasn't shown up yet, etc.).

I think as long as the information is gathered directly through gameplay on the live servers, these sites are just a communication tool for information and don't "spoil" anything any more than when an experienced player runs up to a new player and tells them these things (where to hunt, what mats to use, where to find mats, etc.).

One of my guildies made that same comment last night about spoilers. But, I'm gonna offer the other side of that. Without that site, I would've never even bothered with any of the encylopedia rites. There just aren't enough in-game clues to make them interesting. I just did the Matis one last night where I have to first deliver a bunch of messages and then stand on the hill at sunset. For those NPC's not in cities, wandering the entire region hoping to find these guys isn't fun. It's just boring. Maybe if there were clues or NPC's you could ask to find out roughly where Prospector X hangs out during which season, it would be different. But there's nothing. Just a name and a region.

The same with the missions to find a certain type of food or other mission mat. Is it the game's intention that we just wander around prospecting every single inch and hope the items in season when we hit that spot? That's not really my idea of fun. And, BM's foraging info isn't that much of a spoiler; it just gives you a rough idea where to find something. You still need to look for it.

Also, the maps on BM's site have inspired more exploring than they spoiled for me. I had no idea there were TP's in Sawdust Mines and never really went there. But when I saw them on the maps, I grabbed a healer and headed out looking for them. Sure they made it easier, but to be honest, I don't think I would have even tried to explore that region at all if I didn't have something I was specifically expecting to find.

/tell diljoleth

She can show you around at Zorai island for some mat spots. She has more extensive knowledge than raum site at least for certain items (amps, weapons9.

Re: Spoiler Sites...

I had started collecting data for newbie island maps for the BM site but then had to take all my alts to the mainland to model for the armor gallery I still hope to get back and do this with my 5th char slot but it's probably a ways off for our site.
