State of the Game – Newb Post
Hello.
I took advantage of the 14-day trial and it is coming to an end soon and I wanted to ask a few questions to decide if I should subscribe. I began my adventure as a Tryker so my questions are based on this perspective. Please be patient with me and my newb comments/questions. 1. The Tryker City and the surrounding area seem to be a little it bland. I ventured out to the surrounding area where there is a Farm and a Trading Post and all I found were ruins...are these placeholders? There seems to be stretches of land that are barren. 2. To get anywhere it seems like you have to swim. Is this intentional? 3. Why isn’t there the ability to jump off ledges? I have to sometimes do a lot of walking to find an access point to a body of water. I also try not to make the mistake of getting on land at the wrong spot. I end up having to exit the way I entered. 4. Why do you have to wait at a load screen just to get to the terrace level of a two-story building? 5. Are there huge cities that have large buildings? 6. Are there subterranean areas? 7. Prospecting/Excavating seems to be only in certain predetermined areas. Do the resources ever shift? I have stopped prospecting out in the wild cause I never find anything. So far it seems there are only resources by towns. 8. Quest rewards that are something other than dappers. An item perhaps? Are any of the above things going to be changed or are they working as intended? I don’t want anyone to think I absolutely dislike this game. I don’t. The reasons why I did the trial was because I heard that the community was mature, changing environment based on seasons and that there was going to be an expansion that would enable players to make their own story driven instances. Thank you for any information you might have. |

How far did you get? There are many interestering area's in Tryker to explore.. The 4 lands have vastly different eco-systems, Tyker is water based so there are lots of beaches and well, water. You will also find jungle, desert and forest lands 2. To get anywhere it seems like you have to swim. Is this intentional? Only in Tryker =) skipped 3&4 cause dont have answers 5. Are there huge cities that have large buildings? Yes 6. Are there subterranean areas? Yes the 5th ecosystem is the Prime Roots, all underground 7. Prospecting/Excavating seems to be only in certain predetermined areas. Do the resources ever shift? I have stopped prospecting out in the wild cause I never find anything. So far it seems there are only resources by towns. Nope not at all, there are resources all over the place. It's a very slow starter learning to dig but when u pass level 50 it becomes much easier to search for mats. Until that point you are better off staying area's with easy to find mats 8. Quest rewards that are something other than dappers. An item perhaps? fame (see rites), and the rites you can take with high enough fame give rewards in the form of skills and stat boosts |

Rushin did a good job but I'll see if I can give you my point of view too.

The trading posts and farms, are expected to be the sites of Outposts when they are released. They will be guild controlled mini-towns that give the occupying guild bonuses. Also, something for guild vs guild combat, as you will be able to fight for and defend them from others. Quote:

To the original poster -
I, too, have started recently and by Wednesday, I will have to decide on whether or not to start a subscription. I had many of the same questions/concerns - thank you for writing them! ![]() To the repliers - WOW - this is a NICE, MATURE community. If I would've posted something like this on some other games' forums, I'd be ripped to shreds. Thank you for the wonderfully in-depth answers. For me, I'll renew the subscription - it's pretty fun so far and everyone seems incredibly helpful so we'll see how it goes. Again, thanks Starlin |

1. Ruins are placeholders for outposts that player guilds can create. However, outpost is coming feature. There was a demonstration video about them taken from E3 somewhere. Outposts are single largest upcoming feature in SoR and there is lots of excitement about them.
There is no time estimate yet, but you can find some articles about it at Ryzom main page. I guess that we will see them quite soon at test server. Darkenwell is cool looking place in Tryker ![]() 2 - 4. I have same objections to tryker map design. Other areas much better regarding playability. I remember comment that Nevrax is looking to improve Tryker at some point but I can't remember where I saw that. I guess that it is not among first priorities atm. 7. Raw materials are usually concentrated on fields. You can speak to older foragers to find these fields or use tracking skills. At bit higher levels you will get improvements to your prospection range and angle, that helps a lot when mapping resource spots. When you find raw materials spots you can add land mark on your map to find it easier later. Raw material deposits don't move but they may be usable only at certain season, weather and time of day. This is especially true for rarer raw materials like excellent grade. |

See Pyr and die. That is the most beautifull town on the continent... Maybe an idea is to hook up with a guild and ask them to show you around? |
