How did you hear about Ryzom?

Post details in a reply

I played in the beta and then quit, then I saw something about it on mmorpg.com and decided to see if it had changed any.

Re: How did you hear about Ryzom?

Got invited by a friend at the start of Open Beta 1 over 2 years ago now. Was planning on using it as a stop-gap MMORPG before leaving for one I was waiting for. Turned out I fell in love with Ryzom and havn't had any plans to leave yet, planning on staying here a good few years yet at least

Re: How did you hear about Ryzom?

I read an article about a company, that was working on a game, that bases on an opensource framework. There was mentioned, that that company planned to release the game on Windows and on Linux.

Then I waited for the Linux client.

About 3 months after the release of the game I was ill, and spend some days bored at home. During that time I found the article of Grandma, how to run Saga of Ryzom on Linux, and the had this nice 14 day trial, so I gave it a try.

And I'm still here

Are you running Ryzom on Linux now, then, Thlau? If so, I'd be very interested in how. ^_^

I saw an ad on MMORPG.com during open beta and tried it. Came back some months later and stayed.

No, not any more.
I played on Linux for about 5 month. Then I had considerable stability problems, with several crashes/freezes/etc. a day, so I gave WinXP a chance, as a games loader environment, and I only had two crashes since then.

Then I read about a patch, that introduced microsoft fibres into the game (that is a microsoft variant of threads), which has problems with the linux windows emulators. So I didn't gave it a second try, because I prefer to play SoR, instead of tuning the OP it runs on. You may want to check [FAQ] Ryzom in Linux (The Unofficial HOW-TO)
