Survival Vs Change

Reading the form today I am surprised to see established players leaving with no explanation....Of ourse there is also the Jolt issue here today, and the 'reflex' posting that further increases the tension.
The real issue here is trust..or lack of it....Gameforge are here to make money. The players are here to relax and socialise. So we have the usual tug of war in place where we all survive together, or fail together.
This is why trust is just as important as updates, I am not familiar with Gameforge, I don't know what they have planned...but I know they are an established company, and I can login to the forums of other games they run to get an idea of player feedback.
I recieved a mail last week informing me the cost of playing Ryzom had been reduced...I did not feel compelled to object, and I saw no mention of this in the forum (maybe I just missed the posts of appreciation ?).....
Ryzom still remains a unique game in many aspects, but a familiar failure in the business world....If Gameforge can make this sucessful game into a sucesful business there MUST be changes. I understand that, and if a small ping loss is the price I pay, that is acceptable.
I monitor these days and actions as close as others involved in this game.....yet I don't have my living on the line here, And I will not accuse and speculate, or take rash actions without forming an opinion based on actions ....OF THE COMMUNITY AND GAMEFORGE.
Yes as surprising as it may seem, the comunity is as important as the company in keeping me here.

Does change hurt ?... sure, it is scary, But sometimes the best times of our lives come out of change.

Ryzom will live on, I hope and think that.

Currently we're trying to squeeze out as much information we can about current events and those of the future.

well written post mug

Re: Survival Vs Change

Nice post Mugendo. I think what has caused this much upset is that Jolt was/is a part of the community. Also the way the change has taken place hasn't helped. This would have still hurt even if we'd been told about it before it leaked out of course but reactions might have been better with warning. It's all happen now though so lets wait and see what Phelan can tell us later today in the IRC chat.

I know you're trying to be the voice of reason and you make some good points, however... Taking away one of the stabilizing factors before you have shown us a gameplan is an emtremely bad measure. If the first major decision they made was to make us feel uncomfortable, how much can we expect gameplay to supercede profit in the future ? As much as I respect players on both sides of the war, I do not want those with a possible agenda being the ones called on to mitigate an in-game issue.

The email was misleading, that's why you saw no "appreciation" messages. As some already pointed out, those of us that have been long time players gain nothing... those willing to pay in advance (and risk having just paid for 6 months with a new CSR team) get a discount... it was NOT a longevity savings as implied by the email.

I am going to leave the rest be... I am in mourning for my friends and the game...

Re: Survival Vs Change

Its also the release of Vanguard today.

Many people have reasons for moving on to new places.

Ryzom is a fantastic game with a great future, it just needs more to do in it (at later levels) than explore and socialise.

Yeah I agree. Hopefully we will get details about how the new customer support will be organised soon.

Re: Survival Vs Change

I am with mugendo too.

First, let's see what's coming. The change is done and the servers are running smoothly. Lately, there have been several outages, so the new hosting could clearly be for better.

In the other hand, the Support Staff is a lost, but let's see if GF can bring new people to make the same better. And let's see if the actual volunteers will be still here. Maybe we get a surprise, and not so many people is changing, maybe even the most known don't change; we still doesn't know.

The event team is a big loss, Tiding and so on. I only wish that this kind of evens being a priority for GF.

But, there are a lot of noise, and we haven't see the new staff. Let's see first the changes, and the replacements, and then will yell or applaud, not before...

I don't defend Gameforge wording, in this instance it was worded to encourage long term commitment from players, I can understand those already paying months in advance feeling 'left out' of a 'newbie deal'.

Vanguard is a game that will effect the playerbase of other games, But I will refrain from subscribing to it for one reasoon....SOE. I was dismayed (but not surprised) to read the excellent and in depth crafting system has been 'dumbed down' (ignoring the concerns of the playtesters and developers) as it was potentialy too complex, and the fifteen characters classes have been reduced to four (with variations)..as it was 'confusing'....anybody else see the link ???
SOE...COMPLEX....CONFUSING.....Vanguard, great concept, bad choice of host company. But I am of course biased against SOE, that is why I don't give them the chance to give me another NGE (No Game Environment).
