Ryzom way back then
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.ryzom.com
The Internet Archive Wayback Machine shows us older versions of Ryzom.com, even as the first plans looked waaaay back in 2001. I understand that Gameforge aren't responsible for what happened before the takeover, and even less so the pre-beta ideas. Ryzom has matured a lot over the years, but it's fun to dig and see how it was back then. Very early in 2002 we could read that not only Mektoubs could be domesticised but also the Regus, very handy for cleaning out sewers. There were not only plans for Intelligent plants but also Wild and Cultivated plants. Read this: "The Matis use these Fleeting Plants to improve their own performances. For this, they toss a Seed not far from them, which then grows into a pretty flower in a matter of seconds. The plant releases a Sap-based organic substance into the air that increases and improves the capacities of the Matis within a specific area of effect. " In May 2002 we learn that "5 000 players can play together on the same server". Not bad, I hope that's still true. In August 2002: "A Magical, Sap-Rich Substance is Discovered... KamiBast" Just called sap these days, by any chance? KamiBast wasn't a very catchy name... In 2004 we can read about the game's evolution, with a mayor upgrade every 6 months: "In the pipeline the Nevrax team has begun to plan out the second planet in the Ryzom Saga. The second planet will take the form of a complete product in its own right. This said, an in-game bridge will exist between the two worlds allowing players who have bought the two games to migrate their characters from one world to the other. The second planet will have a significantly different gameplay focus. The characters will, however be compatible from one world to the other, due to the modular nature of the Ryzom skill and action systems." |

Re: Ryzom way back then
I'm glad I never shared those dreams. Entered too late for them. They're wonderful ideas, but, as is said, "too good to be true." So I've enjoyed the game for exactly what it has been instead of playing it in perpetual anticipation.
re: KamiBast Hmm...there's a drink called KamiBlast... o_O

Re: Ryzom way back then
I love that site
![]() Also look at the Matis history and their view of the "Karavan," which they consider servants: The Karavan was created by the Matis in order to journey more swiftly across Atys. Today, the members of the Karavan have forgotten the identity of their ancient masters. Their technology is that of the first Matis. The Great Mentor [Jena?] had used this science to transport the Matis from planet to planet. For this reason, the Matis always protect and survey the people of the Karavan in case they should leave Atys. Despite this, the Matis detest these former servants who no longer know their place. Interesting stuff ![]() Some of the lore can still be applied to Atys today, but I'm afraid the majority of these dreams have either been put aside indefinitely or lost entirely. |

Re: Ryzom way back then
Katriell, I came to the game later than you. Still many of these design ideas do make sense and are example of really cool dynamic gameplay in a sandbox universe. Ryzom is larger than the game and I love to dream...
Hey Gameforge, the second planet idea isn't too bad. I'd buy that expansion! More fun here: http://web.archive.org/web/200312040...fo/gamedesign/ "A player guild may recruit research npcs. Once a mission has been accomplished, these npcs may begin research resulting in the creation of new abilities which the guild members may learn." The tribes seem to have been a much more central part of the gameplay. A guild can conquer a tribe and thereby gain powers, but are also bound to guard and help the conquered tribe. And on a grander scale: "Each player people has a set of dreams which they would like to come true. Once the people's situation has been improved by the player guilds, the guilds may then set out on their greatest campaign." |

Re: Ryzom way back then
I am glad you found a way to "prove" we aren't out of our minds when we talk and dream of such things
