..and speaking of Neutrality..

..from another thread. I have always wondered what it would be like to start another faction. That's right, just start one. Of course, it wouldn't be recognized by the game officially, but so what?
Just curious. We could share information about neutral TP's, have neutral treks, walks in the park, cuddle parties..ok just kidding. But seriously, I would love to see this happen. Perhaps a totally neutral guild? (No OP's, just a kick butt guild).
So, IF we had our way..would you like to see an officially recognized "neutral" faction?
And for the sake of religion, since each side seems to have their god/gods...the neutral would have to be agnostic, right? Unsure of "what" is out there? I know that the lore explains everything, but surely we could think that in an advanced society like Atys there would be SOME homins that aren't sure WHAT to believe?

Re: ..and speaking of Neutrality..

Athough I never understood why factionned get access to PR/250 zones and neutrals don't I voted "no" for I believe that it would make no sense, because on one hand we have two religions each counting believers and on an other hand players who are non-believers and therefore decided not to take part in the faction debate...

anyway if one was to be created It would have to be the Tryton dude faction (points at why I choose neutral thread)

Re: ..and speaking of Neutrality..

I bought the game based on the two religion conflict concept, From my experience, Neutrals seem to muddy the water a little (not being disparaging, it just causes confusion in my opinion.).

Dunno if you can have a kick ass guild with no OP....if the guild was REALLY kick-ass, they would own all the OPs

Re: ..and speaking of Neutrality..

I think there already is a "neutral faction", certainly there are neutral guilds, though some get alignment one way or another for TPs.

The difference I see is that there are strong alliances on the ends of the spectrum, but not so much in the middle. If a number of neutral guilds were to organize to gain and defend OPs, or support each other in other ways, they would indeed be a "faction".

The FvF stuff shouldn't be confused with GvG or Alliance v Alliance. The true game-mechanic influence of faction seems to be primarily the TPs, the rest is player-made. (and extremely interesting, IMO, though some take it too seriously)

The only developer action I'd really think might be useful is to make more of the TPs neutral.

Also, why would the Karavan TP you to PR? (Though I'm glad they do)

I voted maybe, but the above is my real opinion.

Re: ..and speaking of Neutrality..

to my knowledge tping to the Primes Roots is forbidden, or at the very least, frowned upon by the karavan, not Tryton (no idea what the kamis opinion is) look at the second paragraph of this page

Quote:
the Karavan took great care to seal the passageways that lead to the Prime Roots and prevented anyone else from using them.

and over here

Quote:
The homins are forbidden to descend underground in quest of the dragon's lair for fear of stirring its wrath.

And just so we're clear, this is set in 2525 e.g AFTER the exodus. (And I have found no article in the lore section or in the chronicles saying the Karavan have reopened the PR and allowed homins to enter...)

Technically, my karavan friends, you're all sinners and infidels for daring to enter the PR ! call yourselves devoted ! pah ! you disobeyed your goddess, now you're really screwed aren't you muahahahahahaha !

PS : Just so we're clear.....this is a joke

Re: ..and speaking of Neutrality..

First of all I agree with one of the previous posters who said there is already a neutral faction on Atys though not officially recognised by the devs.

The definition of neutrality is very hazy and basicly you can be true neutral like VVV, use only neutral tps and never take part in Pvp conflicts or you can be a neutral guild but kami\kara aligned for tps and defending or attacking some other guilds as you see fit like Fluffy Bunnies. It does not really matter, cause you will still be called neutral.

Well let's see what are the benefits of having an officially recognized neutral faction :

1. TPs only for neutrals. Yes and nobody else. And at least as many as Kara or kami ones.

2. Neutral faction chat.

3. A certain quest or mission that you need to accomplish to become neutral.

4. A separate PvP tag. Why not? Why should neutrals refrain from PvP? yes they are agnostics but they can just aswell be agnostics in arms and fight AGAINST both factions. Imho it can be tons of fun to go neutral tagged when both kara and kami can nuke you at any time. If these people choose to walk the thin line, who's there to stop them?

5. Some Lore backup. Tryton would do just fine. Call them trytonists instead of neutrals and then all the pieces fall into place.

Well atm my little RP guild is neutral but as for the OP's question I'd say YES and I would join only if the above stated terms are met.

P\S And then we will still have two more factions: The undecideds and the Dune farm farmers who cater to everybody Well the more factions we have the more interesting politics we get. The more - the merrier I'd say.

Re: ..and speaking of Neutrality..

And an afterthought.
If there are enough players interested in creating an officially recognized third faction, why not gaether names and write a petition to the devs?
After all only the PvP tag can prove an issue really...
How much more interesting would the game become on the other hand

a third PvP ground would be way way better. 1 V 1 gets boring, fast. It's almost a shame theres not Civ PvP. Becuase 5 v 5 (neturals inc) would be a way way better PvP situation

Re: ..and speaking of Neutrality..

True neutrals are:

1. Not aligned to any faction (even for TP).
2. Not fighting in any OP wars.
3. They don't care about region/alliance/faction wars.
4. They not joining a losing side.

If you fall into any of these areas you cant call yourself a true neutral.
