CD-i Related Technologies Over the years, several new developments were derived from CD-i technology. Philips and their partners used existing CD-i technology to set new standards, all of which could be considered as a subset of CD-i. These new disc formats could be played back on a CD-i player, but also on new dedicated playback devices. The most obvious of these new disc formats is Video-CD.
