Re: PvP Etiquette Question(s)

Missing my point here, sure I can run away never said I couldn't.

AND FOR THE LAST GOD DAMN TIME I'M NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT MYSELF BEING GANKED, I'm complaing that the logic is inconsitant and its a little irritaiting I couldn't use the mobs around me to defend myself despite having an EQUAL chance to be both agro'd and killed by them as a the pk'er.

Are you seeing my point on the inconsistancy of the logic, or is the fact I have to repeat myself over and over a sign your not.

Here's your reasons why being attacked is okay/ other pertinant points

1. Your in a reigon where you know you can be attacked.
Well lets apply this to mobs, gee I think a person outside of any town in the game knows they COULD be attacked by mobs right ?

2. I can run away or use aura's.

Can do this too if your attacked by mobs or lured on

I got radar to see them coming

Heyyy guess what works for mobs too...

I've a change of killing them, they've a chance of killing me.

Guess what the mobs I lured on an attacker would have as much chance of killing me as them ?

Can you now see my point on the slight inconsistancy with the logic... that I've tried to explain it in the most basic way possible ? I know it is in the coc but I'd just like to ability to use whats just as fair as attacking someone with a sword in a gvg area to defend myself and turn the tables on an attacker...

Fair enough no one made the only fair and reasonable counter argument I couldn't argue against so I'll give it to you for free You don't get death penalty for being pked you do for dying for mobs but hey in a gvg area personally id be prepared to have dp on the tables but then again I couldn't force anyone else to accept that as it would be wrong to do so.

My original point anyway was that there was a time people showed general respect and a slight code of honour but these days it seems anything goes is more acceptable and anyone who'd like to see things stay a bit more civilised is the enemy and is jumped on worse than pkers. It's in all honest a bit irritaiting somehow I feel that if I wanted to be liked more that I should start typing like im a mentalist, attacking everyone in sight and giving no one the slightest bit of respect unless I think it would benefit me to do so. And as mentioned above was down to individual guilds but mostly the community on both sides worked together to make the game a bit more beatable for us all, I can understand over some really important sup mats people will fight yes but how long before any harvester in that area at any time is getting attacked if anything goes... While we are throwing the anything goes rules out why dont we all start setting op battles for very inconveniant times etc, challenging repeatedly and mindlessly in an all out war on each other etc...

We don't because in general too much conflict even though its acceptable in the exact rules of the game kinda ends up spoiling everyones fun in the end.

But hey im strange, what can I say...

Sorry for taking your thread basicly off topic, I'll stay out of it now andar...

Re: PvP Etiquette Question(s)

I stay clear of PvP zones....and stay alive, only been aggro drag killed on two occasions, and both were accidents that I recieved an apology and rez.
Of course I was not expecting to die as I was digging in my 95% PvP free Atys.
Of course I could dig in the 5% PvP area of Atys and complain if the same event happened there. But as it is more likely I will die to a PvP active player....this would be the least of my concerns.
Guess that 5% part of Atys will remain off limits to me when digging...I will visit those areas when I feel the need to fight.

*percentages are an approximate based on guesswork and need to emphasize a point*

Re: PvP Etiquette Question(s)

Does PKer drop off after 100m or so?

Does a mob come out of its way (250m plus) to get you? Does a PKer?

Could the mob aggro a herbie rather than you? Does a PKer?

Its illegal. We can kill a person and get slapped with Murder 1. Unless you're a soldier and you're fighting in a war. Then its ok. If the law says its illegal, its illegal. Botting is easier than digging manually. Logic would dictate that botting should be my first choice. But its illegal.

Logic would also dicatate that if I can nuke someone in PR, I could do it any where. I can't. Why? because its a video game (with coding that according to you is flawed) and logic often has to be applied conservatively to create a good game.

Re: PvP Etiquette Question(s)

Thank you all for your responses, I do appreciate the input. It's always good to see somethign from multiple sides, for it aids in the development of one's own perception of the thing.

Generally, from previous gaming exprience, my take has always been...

1) There is no victory without honor. Exploiting or "cheating" removes the value of a kill.

2) Respect your target, disrespect forfeits the victory even if the game mechanics do not.

3) It is better to fight silently than to trash talk, for ones words sometimes strikes a blow beyond the game, which devaluates your target's gaming experience. If one PvP's to ruin someone else's day, that's just sad.

4) If it's legal, and can satisfy the demands of honor, it's fair game.

5) Never protest defeat in public channels. It makes you look weak.

6) If one is PvP enabled (tagged), then one is inviting conflict. When performing tasks that one wishes not to die doing, one should not invite PvP with the "Kick Me" sign of the PvP icon.

That's sort of how I approach PvP, though I understand others may not follow the same set of personal rules as I.

Re: PvP Etiquette Question(s)

Dont remember anyone mentioning the *supposed* safe zones around TPs and spawns ?
Do they still/ever exist ?

Personally if Im in an open PvP zone, I watch radar, I watch /who, I maintain a respectful distance from others.. and I dont fire first.

It looks to me that your finally seeing the limited tho complex gameplay we all suffer. The bottomline to stop posturing for your guild... what is your guild plans and their relation with the rest of us ?

You have spoke of not being able to move up, what do you aspire to ?

You wanna kick Melinoes ass ? You looking for the smallest guild holding an OP ? Which faction do you follow and can they trust you ?

As PvP was introduced to Ryzom it really annoyed me.
Since PvP is now a constant part of the game, I have to deal with it, so personally I use the following rules.
  1. When I enter a PvP zone, I have to expect, that I can be attacked
  2. While I am flagged, I know that I can be attacked
  3. My response to an attack will last beyond the end of the fight

Short: You kill me, then don't expect to be healed by me.

Cheers

Re: PvP Etiquette Question(s)

i've only been maliciously attacked in pr once at the supernodes after a server reset. i went to dig the amber and got promptly sent packing with a hail of nukes.

i've been killed three more times. twice by mates just messing around. once by a bored high lvl charachter.

when i go to umbra and nexus i understand the risks. if i get killed i when in my focus gear i dont' get annoyed. i dont' get dp and it only takes a few mins off of my digging schedule.

what i do feel is a bit of pity that somone feels they have to kill (to all intents and purposes) a defensless digger. do their ego's need that much feeding that they feel the need to kill something that can't really fight back. their ego's would get more sustinance from tagging up and going to pvp with other tagged up players. or maybe they are scared they might get killed

My take on things is not quite the same ....

(1) There is no victory in being the defenceless target (being honourable and right does not ease the frustration of being 'griefed' )

(2) Respect is not dependant on game mechanics....it is a human condition..or lack of. If you want my respect , be literate and articulate in your communication with me. (swinging an axe into my skull limits the articulate and intelligent prolonging of the encounter)

(3) It is better to not assume all 'easy' targets are willing victims.....Be prepared for the consequences of the reaction your attack may provoke. If a PvP griefer assumes all those who don't initiate conflict are 'carebears' ...then take your "it's not fair he hit me back mommy" complaints to those who give a S***

(4) If it's legal and fair game, chances are your limited perception of socially accepted conduct is glaring you in the face !!!

(5) PLEASE post in the public channels.....( we are all sick of hearing "OWNZ NOOBS" in spatial chat)...it allows me to add you to my ignore channel without ever having the misfortune to mistake you for somebody I want to socialise with.

(6) If I am PvP Tagged....then you will recieve the attitude I present in this thread PERSONALLY.

Am I clear in my approach ?
