Re: A Possible Third Group (Faction ?)

I do not object to neutral changes, just don't take my neutral CHOICE from me.
A neutral player should have the ability to join a team of either faction and 'tag up' with them, of course they would lose their neutral standing for a set time....hours/days ?, maybe even pay dappers to remove the penalty. This would open the option for real mercenary activity.
Combat tagged could even allow the neutral to use the TP's of that faction.

As marketed and played and from lore the game was about rebuilding a shattered world with the factions in the background - ideological more than physical war, which would be against the Kitin in mass RAID engine battles -, perhaps, slowly building to some sort of conflict but one that homins might shape - and that shaping might include ignoring the whole bloody thing and telling the powers to shove it up their fuzzy/BDSM bottoms.
I will say up front that this thread is actually pretty good... "The usual suspects" as Jyudas likes to say as well as some newer voices. Far from a consensus but some intriguing ideas...

The game BEGAN as us rebuilding a shattered world, but much has changed since the time since release... in game and real time. Since the "exodus" I have fought alongside many a great homin against the kitin threat when it threatened our civilisations. I have much more often fought beside many great Karavaneers AGAINST those followers of the Kami and those who are also postering here by calling themselves neutral.

How can "I" or anyone in good faith want the latter group to enjoy a position in game they are not playing. Where would the true neutrals fit into this grand plan ? You know these folks... they are the ones that are not involved in homin to homin conflict. Shall these new benefits only be available to those commonly referred to in the community as K3/Kamivan/Kamineutral or just anyone not in the K's ?

The only high fame missions are those available to high level players... Omission of small things like this seem's like disinformation. High levels players can do quite a lot in ANY category in 24 hours with support.

Jyudas, you don't miss too many PvP oppurtunities during OP fights... one would say you're obviously doing what you want to be doing.

You are a PvPer and have killed many homins throughout a long history of battles... You're concern was not for their gameplay, but like these suggestions, your gameplay was your only concern.

Meanwhile many true neutrals have a PvPer that is almost exclusively Kami leaning speaking on their behalf as well as the other sub-groups of non-K aligned homins.

True neutrals should probably enjoy some sweet benefits as suggested in some of these posts as well as substantial and lasting penalties anytime they are not being neutral. Trytonists, Marauders and the like (the Jyudas faction) are choosing a side that doesn't exist and wasn't in the the packaging... They deserve nothing as they are not playing anything but their own version of the saga.

*yawn* erm, sorry if you got the idea somehow that a new low level character could do this. Allow me to explain something you may not have noticed. There are more missions available to higher level characters because they have access to those missions with the prerequisites of combat skills above level X. They are able to complete the missions faster because they do more damage and are less likely to die. They can use their high level hitpoints and dodge levels, while hitting with low level combat skills for more fame from the "XP = fame" when killing bandits system.

There, sufficiently non-misinforming for you?

Re: A Possible Third Group (Faction ?)

Apologies to jared and his original post, but is this thread now really about anything except teleport access? Honestly?

The other specific I picked up was fairly minor mention of a neutral PvP flag. If such a thing were made so that you picked one of the K's to join on tagging up then I imagine the coding would be pretty easy; as opposed to a tag for the type of loose and incoherent 3rd faction being proposed here, coding which I am sure would be a messy can of worms in glue resin. Seem to me, however, that that would pretty much belittle the commitment that the factioned homins have made, so I'd rather see the can of worms dealt with, properly, in time.

Back to the teleports: I'm opposed to weakening, bending, stretching or mashing the lore to accommodate player convenience. I'm in favour of giving homins choices that make a difference to their lives, and empowering homins with the means to find and make their own solutions and alternatives. When the Ks decided to start imposing restrictions on their teleporters, I saw no problem with that, I looked for alternatives and saw my mekkies. They're limited by the fact that mekkie fodder is only available from stables, stables are only in towns, and by our ownership restrictions; we can only own 4, only one can be a mount, and we cannot trade a mektoub which is carrying something in its bags. These limitations aren't governed by lore, they are purely mechanical. If only we could gather food for them in the wilds they would be a far more viable alternative to the evil K teleports. If there were stables at tribe settlements (which there are already) where we could buy fresh ones, or if we could catch and tame wild mektoubs, then so much the better.

The Ks aren't responsible for homin ability to respawn, as evidenced by the portal spawns; the nanoseed is purportedly a gift from Jena to all of us. Tribes people are able to respawn in their settlements and they have no teleporters Perhaps they would allow us to share their spawn points if we win their favour? I'd like to see that, and neutrals would then have a wider choice of available spawns than factioned players because of their Fame caps.

I don't think the Ks went far enough, in truth. I think they should have said, and should say now to every refugee arriving from Silan, "we'll allow you to find your way around freely, homin, for one cycle of Jena, but then you must make up your mind and dedicate yourself to our cause, for we need your help." Or something like that. And at the end of a cycle, refund all pacts if the homin hasn't chosen that faction, and deny purchase of new pacts, excepting those of the capital cities. Maybe the nations should force a concession from the Ks to continue service to the towns at least. I'd lobby for that.

Is there another reason that a 3rd faction, or group, is being proposed? A reason that would, mechanically, affect how we can play that we can't now?

Re: A Possible Third Group (Faction ?)

I'll keep this short.....

I <3 Jamela ideas! Meks and tribes, the way to go.

And believe DT made a very good point. IF there were to be some sort of third Hominist faction, it wouldn't make sense to accept those "neutrals" that decide to involve themselves in "Kami/Karavan squabbles" - it is supposedly what the group is against.

Only if you are talking about a specific and defined third faction, which I at least, am not.

This isn't a place for you to propagandise with your usual BS, so it'd be lovely if you could drop it for once and not use any discussion as a way to lie and score points.

Regarding your points.

* Nothing has really changed since release. The towns are no bigger. Nothing has been rebuilt. Temples that have caused more conflict and destruction have been thrown up and the factions have hijacked the outposts. The situation is worse than when we first started.

* Neutral is a broad base, which is why I don't think just introducing a very defined third faction helps. You KNOW why you commonly face moderates from within your own faction and neutrals at battles but you seem to prefer to use even OOC posts as an excuse to propagandise.

* I am SICK of OP battles. I turn up to them because people pay for us to attend. I don't like them and I don't really want to do them. I fight in them to try and counter the selfish aggression of the KA, to keep my RP consistent and to earn OP mats/crystals and dapper.

Again, giving people back enough functionality to be able to play effectively doesn't harm the people who choose to play factioned.
