few questions
so ive done some searching and most of the stuff i want to know was answered a year to 2 ago. and well stuff changes.
so - is this chart accurate? and if so do people who melee just become useless in comparison to magic users? as well do melee users become use in comparison to gun users? http://ballisticmystix.net/?p=dps - do daggers have any use? ive been told the dagger in your second hand can only do the default attack? - are spears useful? ive been told that basically everyone uses 2 handed sword (which the chart above would explain). just some questions from a new guy |

Re: few questions
The only useless weapon, in my opinion, is the staff.
I guess the charts might be accurate, and the double nuke at level 100 really makes the magic a jump ahead. But double nukes are also very costly, I'm not sure if you can do more than one without being healed. And mages are quite squishy too, melee can withstand a lot more hits. 1h weapons like daggers don't do much damage each blow, but as they are fast and can interrupt the opponent more often. Guns use a lot of stamina, medium armor doesn't too bad penalties but makes the gunner semi squishy. You can't just look at the damage a spell or a weapon does, but also the penalties for using it. Sometimes it's better to build a spell that does less damage to survive longer. |

Re: few questions
In a duel, a melee will generally kill a nuker. Every one gets to use resist jewels which protect against magic damage, but nukers cant afford to wear enough armour to protect them from physical damage. Plus Heavy armour will give the melee an extra 1500 HP...
Spears are popular weapons, their ability to ignore armour, combined with high parry shield makes them useful against people in HA. daggers have very high hit rates, which is useful for interupting casters or holding aggro.. but this depends on using dagger as primary weapon, if it is secondary as far as I know you are using the rate of your sword. The standard tactic in mass battles is for lines of nukers to face up to each other, with the healers behind, and slug it out. meanwhile the melees are charging in trying to kill the healers. This is a generalisation, there is scope for variation. At this point ranged combat is still more of a novelty in battles, but changes are in progress. /edit just took another look at the chart. It completely fails to mention the costs involved in those hit-per-minute figures, apart from the ammo. For a nuker to sustain that level of output, they would need two healers feeding them. 3 melees would own them. Or 2 melees and a healer. one melee and 2 healers would be a bit of a waste of time. |

Re: few questions
Just a little addition:
what you dont see in the chart is the stats (skill) of the player using nukes: I bet you he is 250 Melee as well. If you work only magic you will have low HP compared to a mage that mastered melee and wont be able to cast more than 2 or 3 nukes, as opposed to maybe 5 for a player that mastered melee.. So basically, if u want to be a good mage-damage dealer, work out your melee ![]() (I just love that statement: like a nonsense making so much sense lol)

ingame dps depends on lot of "small and unimportant" things and never be exactly what it shows there. thats why i added small note there (now in red for easyer reading) Quote:
.. and like i said, nuker dps drops to zero if target activates magic aura (or inv)... or target runs out of range also nuker can "keep dps" solo for say 15sec with self heal bit longer (not ingame to check whats the dbl nuke stat use is). melee can do it lot longer, and range even longer because of mobility. ... but all that has nothing to do with dps chart.

And that simple statement highlights the reality of PvP...The sucessful PvP player understands the optimum code settings to achieve the most appropiate result required, so it is essential to understand the code numbers and apply this into various mathematic permutations to gain optimum use of this understanding. And as Ironic as it seems, the above describes the typical 'Geek' who recieve many a scornful remarks, and limited invites to college parties...Yet this is the very person we need to become to achieve the title.... Actually that [edit] only teaches you how to do most dmg, which is just [edit] when it comes to pvp...... PvP and beating others in it has so little to do with that [edit] to do you got no idea... I failed at math 2 years in a row before i managed to "suck up" for a better grade in math which was my only bad (HORRIBLE) class. Yet I believe most people on this server can vouch for my PvP skills. AND my tactics in OP battles, ability to lead teams. Even with me failing math, I managed to become the best spy pvper in SWG, and even with failing math i managed to become a high ranked pvper in nearly every game ive played... So knowing code and math dont mean [editx2]. If you wanna prove me wrong, come fight me. Oh im sorry, last time i checked. You dont pvp.... But of course, if your post was simply a ironic statement then I just made a complete ass out of myself... Oh well [Watch your language please ![]() Last edited by boroshi : July 5th, 2007 at 04:32 PM. Reason: Edited for language |

You forget to add use of terrain, use of special stanzas, use of enchants and personal player skills and ability to change tactics in a seconds notice... That chart shows squat. Sorry |
